In the name of Amen I Hercules Jenkins of the parish of Lanthewy Vach in the County of Monmouth farmer being sick and weak in body but of a sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in maner and form following (that is to say).  First I give and bequeath to my son John the sum of one shilling to be paid in one year after my decease and also I give and bequeath to my son Edmund one bead, one beadstead, two sheets and one rug of which he is not to have his choice but to to take that which shall be given him.  Also I give and bequeath to my son Philip the sum of one shilling if he will come to demand the same.  And also the rest and residue of my goods and chattles I give device and bequeath to my two sons William and Thomas and Elizabeth and Mary my two daughters to be devided into four equal shares between them my said two sons and two daughters jointly and severaly whom I do hereby nominate and appoint whole executors and executrixes of this my last Will and Testament hereby revocking all former Wills by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of April 1789.  The mark of Hercules (X) Jenkins

            5th June 1797.  Thomas Jenkins the natural & lawful son of the dec’d & one of the exors in the above written will named was sworn to the truth thereof & to the faithfull performance of the same & that the goods chattles & credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of one hundred pounds (power being reserved to the other exors) before me Benj Hall, Chancellor

 

Proved at Landaff before the Chancellor on the fifth day of June 1797 on the oath of Thomas Jenkins the natural & lawfull son and one of the exors – power being reserved for the other exors.
