John Edmonds of Cwmcarvan 1720.

In the name of God Amen, I John Edmonds of Treely In ye pish of Cumcarvan in ye County of Monmouth yeoman being of sound and perfect disposing mind and memory doe make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following and I doe hereby revoke all former wills by me made. Imprimis I comend my soul to Almighty God hopeing through ye merits death and passion of Jesus Christ my saviour to rese remission for my sins and my bodey I direct to bee decently buried and my funerall expenses to bee paid by my exector herein after named. Item I doe hereby order and directt all my just debts which shall bee due and oweing by me at my decease shall bee paid by my exect hereinafter named. Item I doe hereby order and direct yt my loving wife Jane Edmonds should live and continue in my now dwelling house at Treely? dureing ye terme of her life if shee bee minded soe to doe with my son John Edmonds my exectr therein and it is my will and mind yt my son John shall find unto her sufficient meat drink togeing washing and aparel and all other necesaries dureing ye terme of her life but in case my sd son John should marry and my sd wife bee desirous to live in some other place then I doe order my sd son my exectr to pay unto her ye sume of fower pounds yearly dureing her life ye same to bee paid at every half yeare ye first paym’t to bee made whithin halfe a yeare after such her removeall. Item I give and bequeath unto my sd loving wife Jane Edmonds all my househould goods of what kind soever dureing her life and yt shee may have liberty to dispose of ye same by will or otherwise to whom shee should think fitt but if she should happen to die intestate or without making any such disposall then it is my will and mind yt all such my household goods should goe to my daughter Elizabeth Edmonds. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Francis Edmonds ye sume of five shillings. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Edmonds ye sume of fower shillings. Item I give unto my daughtr Sarah ye sume of fower shillngs. Item I give unto my daughtr Mary ye sume of fower shillngs. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughtr Elizabeth ye sume of forty pound to bee paid her within three years after my deceace. Item I give and devise unto my son John Edmonds his heirs and assignes for ever all yt my house called Treely? with all ye outhouses and lands thereunto belonging and all other my reall estate whatsoever and wheresoever but it is my will and mind yt in case my sd son John should die intestate and wthout making any setlement or disposall of his estate yt then all my sd reall estate should goe unto my younger son Henry Edmonds and not any part thereof to my second son Francis Edmonds. Item I doe hereby constitute and apoint my sd son John Edmonds my sole exector of this my last will and testament. Item I doe hereby order and direct yt in case my sd son John Edmonds should die before my sd wife then it is my will and mind yt my sd wife shall continue in my sd house at Treely? dureing her life as aforesd with his successor or heir therein on ye terms aforesd or yt my sd estate called Treely? should be charged wth ye paymt of ye sd fower pound a year to her yearely dureing ye terme of her life as aforesd. I ye sd John Edmonds have hereunto sett my hand and seale this twenty fift day of March anno domi one thousand seven hundred and twenty.
