            This is the last Will and Testament of me David Griffiths of the parish of Cumcarvan in the County of Monmouth blacksmith.  First I will that all my just debts and funeral expences be fully paid and satisfied by my executrix herein after named.  And I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane the wife of James Evans the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid her by my said executrix within twelve months after my decease.  And I give and devise unto my loving friend and kinsman Thomas Embry of the town of Monmouth ironmonger all that messuage tenement or dwelling house smith shop garden and outlett thereunto belonging wherein I now inhabit and dwell called Croft y Lloy and also all that messuage tenement farm and lands called Lower Trevelddy with its appurtenances which said several messuages are scituate lying and being in the said parish of Cumcarvan and County of Monmouth to hold to him the said Thomas Embry in trust to and for the uses following that is to say to and for the use and behoof my daughter Mary Griffiths her heirs and assigns and my will and meaning is and I do hereby fully order and direct that in case my said daughter Mary shall and do intermarry with any man without the consent and approbation in writing of my said trustee in whom I put full trust and confidence will not with hold such consent but for her benefit and advantage that then and in such case and when she do so marry without consent as aforesaid the said messuage tenement farm and lands called Lower Trevelddy shall be held by the said Thomas Embry for the use and behoof of my said daughter Jane and her heirs for ever.  And I give and bequeat all and singular my personal estate and effects whatsoever to my said daughter Mary Griffiths and do hereby nominate and appoint her sole executrix of this my Will.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven.   David Griffiths

26th March 1788.  Mary Griffiths spinster the daughter and sole executrix in this Will named was sworn to the truth thereof and to the faithful performance of the same.  And that the goods chattles and credits of the dec’d do not amount in value to the sum of three hundred pounds.  Before me Benj Hall, Surrogate

 

This Will was proved at Landaff on the twenty sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight before the Rev’d Benjamin Hall, Clerk, BD, the Chancellor’s Surrogate by Mary Griffiths spinster the daughter and sole executrix in the within Will named who was first on the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to execute the same to exhibit an inventory &c and to render a just account of her administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required
