            In the name of God Amen I Anne Keene of the Town of Newport in the County of Monmouth, widow, being weak in body but of a sound disposing mind memory and understanding but considering the great uncertainty of this mortal life do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) I give devise and bequeath unto my dear sister Milbrow Edwards, widow, who now lives and resides with me all those two leasehold messuages or dwelling houses now in my possession situate lying and being in Bakehouse Lane in the said Town of Newport in the said County for and during the term of her natural life.  And from and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same premises unto my good friend Mr William Hughes of the Town of Caerleon in the said County to hold to him the said William Hughes his executors administrators and assigns for and during all my estate term and interest therein.  I also give devise and bequeath unto Mary Hughes the daughter of the said Mr William Hughes all my leasehold messuage or dwelling house and garden commonly called the Rock situate in the parish of Langibby in the said County to hold to her the said Mary Hughes her executors administrators and assigns for and during all my estate term and interest there in.  I also give and devise and bequeath (as far as in me lies) unto John Morgan the son of William Morgan of the Town of Abergavenny in the said County haberdasher all my leasehold piece or parcel of land situate in the parish of Langoven in the said County to hold unto him the said John Morgan his executors administrators and assigns for and during all my estate term and interest therein.  I also give and bequeath unto the other four children of the said Mr William Morgan namely Mordecai Jones Morgan, Clerk;  Mary Morgan;  Jane Morgan and Samuel Morgan the sum of one guinea each payable by my executor hereinafter named within six months next after my decease.  I give and bequeath unto my said sister Mrs Edwards one silver tancard, one blue silk gown, two common cotton gowns.  I give & bequeath unto the said Mr William Hughes one silver tancard, one silver watch.  I also give and bequeath unto Mr William [page damaged. DW] another silver tancard.  I also give and bequeath unto the said Mary Hughes their daughter one new silver pint and also one silk gown studded with gold.  I also give and bequeath unto Mrs Ann Todman sister to the said Mrs Hughes two silver dobbins and one yellow silk gown.  I also give and bequeath unto Francis Sutton who has lived with my deceased husband and me for this many years the sum of five pounds payable by my executor herein after named within twelve months next after my decease (if he shall so ling live).  And as for and concerning all and singular the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects of what nature soever or wheresoever I give and bequeath the same unto the said Mr William Hughes and do hereby nominate constitute and appoint him whole and sole executor hereby revoking all other and former Wills be me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament.  In witness whereof I the said Ann Keene have hereunto set my hand and seal the third day of July in the thirty eight year of the reign of our sovereign Lord King George the Third and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight.  The mark of the above named Anne X Keene

 

Signed sealed published and declared by the said testatrix Ann Keene as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto  Thos Morgan;  John Waters, Att’y at Law, Caerleon

 

December 27th 1799 William Hughes sole executor [page damaged. DW] and to the faithfull performance of the same and that the goods chattels and credits do not amount in value to the sum of six hundred pounds before me Benj Hall, Chancellor,

 

Proved at Landaff on the 27th day of December 1799 before the Chancellor on the oath of Wm Hughes sole executor named in the said Will.
