Nat Jensen (1904-2000)
Funeral services for Nat Jensen, 96, of Canby,
were held Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Marble Lutheran Church in rural
Canby, with Pastor Art Weitschat officiating. Burial was in the Marble
Lutheran Cemetery. Duane Hogie was the organist and soloist, singing
"How Great Thou Art", ant "The King is Coming". The
congregation sang "Rock Of Ages" and "What A Friend We
Have In Jesus". The ushers were Roger Nelson and Paul Grande.
The honorary casketbearers were Gordon Halverson,
Bernard Madsen, Roger Nelson, LeRoy Anderson, Clifford Olsen, Arnold
Hoseck, Lynn Nefstead, Frank Bullert, Joe Cech, Darrel Johnson, and
Donald Olsen. The active casketbearers were Jim Reiss, Jim Eckblad,
Gerald Rhea, Gary Nielson, Ed Hulsebus, and Earl Johnson.
Mr. Jensen died on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Sioux Valley
Canby Hospital.
Nat Jensen was born on April 11, 1904, in Marble
Township of Lincoln County, Minnesota, to parents Hans and Trina
(Nelson) Jensen. He was raised on the family farm, and attended
country school. He was baptized and confirmed at Marble Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 6, 1926, Nat was married to Laura Belsner at the
Lutheran Parsonage in Canby.
The couple lived in Marble Township, where Nat farmed.
He also worked as a carpenter, as a Federal Crop Insurance Adjuster for
the U.S.D.A., and as Lincoln County Weed Inspector. Nat was a life-long
member of Marble Lutheran Church, and he had served on the Church Board.
He also had served on the Marble Township Board and the Farmers' Co-op
Board. Some of his enjoyments in life included fishing, hunting,
reading, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Laura of Canby; his
daughter, Delphine Bakke and her husband Elwood of Canby;
three granddaughters: Judy Thies and her husband Dick of
Charleston, S.C., Joan Beseman and her husband Tom of St. Paul
and Brenda Bakke and her husband Dennis Strasser of
Bothell, Wash.; a great-granddaughter, Crystal Stohr of St. Paul;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in
infancy; three brothers; and two sisters.
