About the Mølgaard Family in Denmark
The following was received
April 11, 2000
from Gunnar Mølgaard,
grandson of Jens Madsen Mølgaard,
who still lives in Gjøl, Denmark
"My mother was Laura and was daughter
of Jens Madsen Mølgaard. I remember clearly my grandparents who lived
close to my home here in Gjøl. My grandmother [Benjamine] died in 1944 when Denmark
was occupied by Germany and grandfather died in 1949. At that time my
mother was widow and grandfather had been ill for a short period and was
therefore moved into my mother, where he died in January 1949.
In Gjøl there still is the house, where
your grandfather [Carl] was born, it is a small farm outside the
village, and on this farm all the children from both marriages were
born.
Jens Madsen Mølgaard got 5 children from the first
marriage with Olivia: Marinus, Carl, Sofie, Nikoline, and Olivia, and
with his second wife, they had Laura, Henry, and Christian.
In 1906 the family moved into Gjøl, and this house is
still there. In 1910 he built a new house, which also is here.
In the churchyard in Gjøl, there is still a stone
with the inscription 'Olivia Mølgaard born Nickolaisen' and
when Nicoline died in 1973 her name was written onto here mothers stone
as she was not married. On another stone is written 'Benjamine
Mølgaard, born in 1860 and died in 1944' and below is written 'Jens Madsen Mølgaard born in 1857 and died in 1949'."
