Harry Jensen (1899-1997)
Services for Harry Jensen, 97, of Clear Lake,
SD formerly of Gary, SD, will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday June 5,
1997 at the Gary United Methodist Church in Gary, SD with Pastor
Peggy Zerface officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview
Cemetery at Gary. Bruce Melby will sing "The Old
Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer". The
congregation will sing "Amazing Grace", "Just As I
Am", and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Dorothy
Sander is the organist. The honorary casketbearers are all
relatives and friends. The casketbearers are Melvin Pieper,
Erick Koeppen, Don Beutler, Mike Miller, Donald Fritz, and Arvin
Jesme. Visitation will be all day on Wednesday at the Birk
Funeral Home in Canby, and with the family present from 7:00 P.M. until
8:30 P.M. Wednesday evening. Visitation will continue at the
church on Thursday one hour prior to the services. Mr. Jensen died
on Sunday at the Deuel County Hospital in Clear Lake, SD.
Harry Jensen was born on August 28, 1899 in
Marble Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota, to parents Hans and Trina
(Nielsen) Jensen. He was raised in Marble Township, and was
confirmed at the Marble Lutheran Church. He and Viola Edrie
Friedrichs were married on April 28, 1926 in rural Canby. They
farmed near Canby and Gary, SD until retiring in 1969, when they moved
to Gary. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards, being with
his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In his
younger days, he played the button accordion and harmonica for many
dances and celebrations.
He is survived by his wife, Viola of Clear
Lake, SD; four daughters, Alice (Jerry) St. Aubin of Fort Mohave,
AZ; Marian (Lee) Denekamp of Canby, MN; and Ruthann Bultinck
of Elk River, MN; and Sally Winrow of Gary, SD; one son, Harry
J. Jensen of Hartford, SD; one brother, Nat (Laura) Jensen of
Canby; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grand
child and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers,
Albert and Aksel, and two sisters, Nora and Sophie.
