Denmark to America 1913
On March 6, 1913, Carl Molgaard boarded the S.S. Oscar
II in Copenhagen, bound for the United States. He was only 17
years old, traveling alone to join his brother, Marinus, in Alta,
Iowa. He had only $25 in his pocket.
His voyage across the ocean lasted 15 days and on March 21, 1913,
he arrived at Ellis Island in New York City. From there, he
traveled to Alta, Iowa, probably by train.
