Death Notices of Some Soldiers of The American Revolution Published in Missouri Newspapers
ALLEN, JOHN. Was born in Farmington, Connecticut, March 20, 1758, and died October 5, 1830, in Louisiana, Missouri. He enlisted in 1776 under Captain Scott (Col. Wylle's Regiment of Infantry, Huntington's Brigade), Connecticut State Line, as a private. At the expiration of his one year's enlistment, he entered the Continental Army for the period of the war. Early in the spring of 1777, he was attached to the New Jersey Line (Captain William Mills' Company of Artificers), and was promoted to sergeant. Near the conclusion of the war he was transferred to Captain Thomas Patten's Company of Artillery Artificers. After the war he married and removed to Lexington, Kentucky. Previous to the transfer of the Louisiana Purchase he removed to St. Louis County, and later settled in Louisiana, Pike County, Missouri. Missouri Republican (St. Louis), October 19, 1830.
BERRY, WILLIAM. Died at his residence in St. Louis County, twelve miles west of St. Louis, in the 86th year of his age. He was born in Virginia; entered the army when 22 years old, and was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. In 1782, he removed to Kentucky, and for the last sixteen years has been a resident of Missouri. He leaves a numerous family. Missouri Republican, December 22, 1838.
BRANN, WILLIAM. Of Westmoreland County, Virginia, departed this life, December 27, 1846, aged 104 years. Weekly Reveille (St. Louis), January 12, 1846.
CONWAY, SAMUEL. Of Marion County, Missouri, died September 17, 1830, aged 75 years. St. Louis Republican, September 28, 1830.
FRANKLIN, Major THOMAS. Died at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia, March 23, 1841, in his 84th Missouri Republican, April 24, 1841.
MARTIN, LEWIS. Died in St. Ferdinand town, St. Louis County , July 10, 1834, aged 77 years. Missouri Republican, July 15, 1834.
MOORE, Major ZECHARIAH. Died in Femme Osage, St. Charles County, August 28, 1837. Missouri Republican, September 7, 1837.
MUSICK, Elder T. B. Died at the residence of Mr. Musick, sixteen miles west of St. Louis, December 2, 1841, in the 85th year of his age. Missouri Republican, December 7, 1841.
PEERS, Major VALENTINE. Died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Lewis Collins, in Maysville, Missouri, May 29, 1830, aged 74 years. Major Peers emigrated from Ireland a short time previous to the commencement of the war. Missouri Republican, June 30, 1830.
QUARLES, Major ROBERT. Died at his plantation in St. Ferdinand township, St. Louis County, August 23, 1827, in the 65th year of his age. At an early age the deceased entered the Revolutionary Army with the rank of lieutenant, and later was promoted to quartermaster general of the State of Virginia. He removed from Richmond, Virginia, to Missouri in 1819. Missouri Republican, August 30, 1827.
RAMSEY, Captain WILLIAM. Died at his residence near Stoneport, Boone County, May 22, 1845, aged 104 years. He served during almost the entire period of the war and was present at the surrender of the British at Yorktown. After removing to Kentucky he served as captain of a company of spies. In 1802 he removed from Bourbon County, Kentucky, to the wilds of Missouri. He served in the War of 1812. Daily Missouri Republican, June 13, 1845.
SNOWDEN, JAMES. Died in Lexington, Missouri, April 28th, aged 86 years. Weekly Tribune (Liberty), -May 9, 1846.
STUFLEBEAN, JOHN. Died near Kaskaskia, Illinois, January 11, 1844, aged 110 years, 1 day. He was born near Albany, New York, and after the war removed to Kentucky, thence to Illinois. New Era (St. Louis), March 20, 1844.
TALBOT, HAILE. Died August 31, 1828, residence at Loutre Island, Montgomery Co in his 76th year. Mr. Talbot was born in Virginia and served in that state during the war. He removed to Kentucky at an early period, where he resided until 1810, when he came to Missouri. Missouri Re lican, September 9, 1828.
TAYLOR, DANIEL. Venerable relic of 1776 at the age of 95 years in Danville, Missouri, February 27, 1841. He saw much service in the northwestern part of North Carolina. Daily Missouri Republican, March 5, 1841.
TOMB, DAVID. Died September 13, 1839, at his residence in Pike County, at the age of 77 years. Missouri Republican, September 24, 1839.
TRUESDELL, NATHAN. Died at the residence of his son in St. Louis County, March 26, 1846, in the 84th year of his age. Weekly Tribune (Liberty), April 18, 1846.
WALKER, JESSE. Of Howard County, February 18, 1849, aged 100 years, 7 months, 21 days. The Brunswicker (Brunswick), March 17 1849.
WALTON, WILLIAM. Died in St. Louis County, 7, 1826, in the 84th year of his age. Missouri Republican April 27, 1826.
WARD Colonel WILLIAM. Died August 16, 1837 at the house of James D. Moore, in Femme Osage township, St. Charles County. He emigrated from Ireland to this country at the age of eighteen. For many years he filled the offices of sheriff and justice of the peace in Pennsylvania. At the outbreak of the War of 1812 he again volunteered and took part in the siege of Malden. He was 82 years old at the time of his death. Missouri Republican, September 9, 1837.
WATSON, SAMUEL. Died at his residence bear Louisiana, Pike County, in the 84th year of age. He was was one of the first inhabitants of the county, he, with two others, John Jordan and Anthony Thomas, (all of South Carolina) having effected a settlement near Buffalo Licks in the fall of 1808. Mr. Watson took part in most of the principal battles fought in Carolina. Missouri Republican, February 15, 1838.
WELLS, Colonel SAMUEL. Of St. Charles county, died July 25, 1830, aged 70 years. The services rendered to the country by Col. Wells in the character of a soldier and officer are too well remembered, particularly by the people of Kentucky, to be repeated. During his residence in Kentucky he was a member of the legislature of the state for several years, and after his removal to Missouri served in the legislature of that state. His widow and eleven children survived him. Missouri Republican, August 17, 1830.
