Howard Cemetery
Founded 1881 Compiled August 1999

The first grave was for Joel Souther. His father died and his mother married James Richard Lea. His grandparents, Wesley and Sarah Howard, kept Joel. When Joel died of a spider bite, his grandfather donated the land for a community cemetery, and buried his grandson there.
The second grave was for Charles Clifford Grimshaw, a neighbor and playmate of Joel.
A horse threw Charles against a tree. Charles's grave is at the foot of Joel's. As more space was needed, additional ground was donated by A. W. Grimshaw. Much of this information was gleaned from the records of A. W. Grimshaw and his personal testimony recorded by his wife Naomi. Additional Information was obtained from Donna Llewellen Lester. This compilation was done by Vadyne Allen.
There is a publication that seems to indicate the cemetery was started as early as 1879. We have not included that information here as the material is copyrighted.
This is a listing of all known burials. Some names appear under parents as well as with their spouse(s). The numbers at the left indicate the lot number and position. See the attached map.
The Cemetery Association is controlled by a Board of Directors. The current board members are Orville Allen, Lorene Donelli and Katherine Llewellen. Ethel Williams is the secretary and Vadyne Allen is the treasurer.
