Government Lands
There are about one half million acres of public lands subject ot homestead or cash entry yet remaining in Missouri. About 400,000 acres have been taken within the last five years.
The following statement shows the location of this land by counties and the district in which it is subject to entry. For further information address Register of Lands at either of the offices mentioned:

Homestead entries can be made for i6o acres only, an additional 6o may be taken under cash entry.
Land fees and commissions payable when application is made are as follows: On lands outside of railroad limits $14, for 16o acres, $13 for 120 acres, and $6 for 40 acres.
Lands within railroad limits 160 acres $18, 120 acres $16, 80 acres $9, 40 acres $7.
An entry of 80 acres will cost $10 fee besides the regular commission, at $1.25 if without railroad limits and $2.50 per acre if within railroad limits.

The government does not issue map or plat showing public lands.

TAXATION AND EXEMPTION.
All property in this State is subject to taxation except property, real and personal, belonging to the United States; to this State ; to my county, city or municipality ; limited real estate and buildings used exclusively for schools, religious or charitable purposes, and the property of agricultural societies when used exclusively for exhibitions intended to promote agriculture.
All property, both real and personal, shall be assessed it its cash value and to the party owning it on the first day of June.
For State purpose the annual levy shall be fifteen cents on each hundred dollars for- State revenue and ten cents for interest on State debt and sinking fund.
For county revenue the annual rate in counties assessed at six millions or less shall not in the aggregate exceed fifty cents on the hundred dollars and in other counties shall not exceed thirty-five cents on the hundred dollars.
For public schools the General Assembly appropriates one third of the State revenue. A large revenue is also derived from interest on the permanent school fund now amounting to over twelve million of dollars and in addition to this districts may levy forty cents on the hundred dollars, and in county districts a vote of the taxpayers may raise this levy to sixty-five cents and in towns and cities to one dollar on each hundred dollars valuation.
EXEMPTIONS FROM EXECUTION OR ATTACHMENT.
The following property when owned by the head of a family shall be exempt from execution or attachment for debt except taxes, ten head choice hogs, ten head choice sheep, and the products thereof, two cows and calves, two plows, ax, hoe, set plow harness, farm implements for one man, two work animals, stock feed to value of $25, spinning wheels, cards, looms and apparatus, yarn thread and cloth for family use; hemp, flax and wool not exceeding twenty-five pounds each; wearing apparel of family ; four beds and bedding; household and kitchen furniture not exceeding $100 in value, tools and implements of trade of a mechanic while carrying on his trade; arms and military equipment required to be kept by law: provisions on hand for family use not to exceed $100, in value, etc., etc., or in lieu of live stock and farming implements herein exempt any other property real or personal not to exceed in value $300.
HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION.
The homestead consisting of dwelling house and appurtenances and land used in connection therewith not to exceed one hundred and sixty acres or a total value of $1,500 when located in the county ; nor more than eighteen square rods and a valuation of $3,000, in cities of forty thousand inhabitants, nor more than thirty square rods and a valuation of $1,500 in cities of ten to forty thousand inhabitants, nor more than five acres and a valuation of $1,500 in cities with less than ten thousand inhabitants.
