Imperial Mistress of States
Missouri's Improved Herds
While all branches of agriculture are conducted, perhaps, as successfully and as profitably in Missouri as elsewhere, the handling of live stock offers special inducements, and by reason of favorable conditions existing here should prove remunerative even when unprofitable in other localities. The short winters, the luxuriant growth of grasses, pasturage upon which stock may be grazed almost the entire abundance of water, and year and a supply of all the grains grown in the temperate region, are ideal conditions for the growth and development, at minimum cost, of live stock of superior quality.
Measured by our success at the leading exhibitions, occupies an advanced position Missouri among the live stock breeders of the world.
In rings for the exhibition of saddle horses, Berkshire hogs, Merino sheep, Angus cattle and mules, we lead all competitors.
Our Shorthorn, Holstein, and Jersey cattle, and our Poland-China and other breeds of hogs are exhibited with success in competition with the most progressive breeders and are a credit to the State and to the men who produced them.
Our trotting and pacing horses are entered in the grand circuit each season and their phenomenal speed, iron constitution, and undaunted courage merits the admiration of horsemen, and earns honors for the State and profit for their owners.
Our thoroughbred establishments are made up of the best blood of this country and England, are managed by capable and judicious breeders and are producing a high class of consistent winners.
The conditions and environments offered by this State for the production of superior animals are unsurpassed.
The stock now on hand which will be the foundation stock of future herds are the equals, in many instances the superiors, of anything that can be purchased elsewhere.
