Mama's Overall's

My mother, Mildred Hulda Morton was born September 30, 1929 to William Melvin Morton and Cora Eliza Jane Webster Morton. Being the first child, my grandfather, went right out and purchased a pair of denim bib overalls, just like his. I can just imagine his surprise when "she" came to be. I never did get the whole story, but the overalls were given to her and she kept them for many years as a treasure from her dad. Throughout the years, a tradition was born in our family as a result of mama's overalls. My daughter Brandi was the first grandchild born to my mother and she thought it would be fun to take her picture in her overalls. We did and the pictures were just precious. By that time the overalls were about fifty years old. After Brandi, my brother Joe and his wife finally had the first boy to have his picture taken in mamas overalls. And so the tradition grew.

Mama's overalls are seventy five years old now and we are now taking pictures of great grandchildren in the size 0 denim overalls. I know that my grandfather was never disappointed that his firstborn was a girl, but my mom and I always laughed and wondered if just for a moment he had wished for a boy!!
