The Personal
Morton Research Papers of
Harry O. Alvis

Harry Orlean Alvis
1931 - 2004
I first met
Harry O. Alvis by email about seven years ago. I was looking for my Morton
family line and discovered his web site. It was fascinating to me, but I could
not link my line to his even though the names were the same and the area was the
same. We talked on the phone and he tried so hard to help me fix the links I was
missing to no avail. But seven years later, and just before he died, I found the
actual parents of the great grandfather I was researching and it became evident
to us then that our lines did indeed meet.
According to
Anna, Harry's wife, Harry began researching his family history in the early
1960's. He had a very inquisitive mind and a love of family and history. This
combination led him to in depth research of his lines, that included more than
just his Morton line. Some of his other surnames were Alvis, of course, Sharpe,
Chandler, Donaldson, and many more that intertwined within his family
lines.
Harry was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas April 3, 1931 and he
died in Batesville Arkansas February 17, 2004. I was very privileged to be able
to talk with him just before he crossed over to the other side and even though
he was very sick, he was indeed tickled that I had finally found my Morton line.
He was the father of two daughters and one son, and two step daughters. Harry
was very proud to be a full patch member of the Covenant Motorcycle Ministry.
When he died he lacked completing one course from the Houston Bible College
toward becoming an ordained minister.
Although Harry
has crossed over and knows all the answers now, I somehow feel he is there
watching all of us and will help us in our journey to find the answers to all
our questions. His work was excellent and precise. He sourced his work and it
was such a big help to me. Anna Alvis, his wife, and his son, Harry G. Alvis,
has granted me permission to put his work on my web site. I hope that it will
help many people as that was what he strived to do in his life.
It will take me awhile to get all of his work online but I
wanted to put the first pages up. Check back often to see what is new on this
page. My thanks to Anna and Harry's son Harry Alvis for allowing me to honor Harry on my
site.
