Transcriptions of Land Grants for Joseph Harrison, Sr.
in and around Caldwell, Iredell, Wilkes, and Watauga
Counties in North Carolina.
(please note that the transcriptions are as close as I can determine from the
copies that were obtained from the Archives in Raleigh. Some are just not
readable and I did not try to guess).
**Iredell County, November 1, 1822
This indenture made the first day of November the year of our Lord One Thousand Eighty Hundred and Twenty two Between Joseph Harrison Senr. of the County of Iredell and State of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Harrison Junr. of the same state and county of the other part witnesseth that the said Joseph Harrison Senr. for and in consideration of the sum of seventy dollars in hand paid by the said Joseph Harrison Junr. the right whereof the said Joseph Harrison Sen. doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted and bargained and sold agreed and confirm and by these presents doth give grant Bargain and sell ____?and confirm unto the said Joseph Harrison Junr. his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract and parcel of land lying situated and being in the county aforesaid are Branches of the Yadkin River beginning at a Spruce Pine James Stephensons land Corner au the little Rocky faced mountain thence North Eighty five West forty poles to a pine. Hard rocks corner North five East one hundred poles to a Black Oak By a Branch his other corner. North Eighty poles to a river wash Eighty poles to a Post Oak au George Roberts line Twenty poles from the flat Rock Black Oak South twenty Eight East Eighty to a stake Roberts corner there with his wire South sixty West au hundred and seventy poles to a Black Oak South forty East au hundred and twenty poles to a Black Oak Rich and Willsons corner. North forty two east au hundred poles to a forked Chestnut his other corner South forty seven East eighty poles to a black oak his other corner thence to the beginning continuing au hundred and forty acres to the same mor or less with all the woods ways waters and water courses and all and every the app_____ there unto belonging as in any wise _____ and the ___ ____ ___ and ___. ___ and all the Estate Right ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ and ___ Whatsoever of the said Joseph Harrison Sen. of in and to the land and premises hereby grant to have and hold the afforesaid lands and premises with all the app___ unto the said Joseph Harrison Junr. his heirs and assigns to the proper use and ___ of ____ Joseph Harrison Junr. his heirs and assigns forever and the same Joseph Harrison Sen his known executors ____ is ___ the ___ ___ ___ ___ as ____ against his ____ as ____ shall forever warrant and deferr By these present in witness whereof the said Joseph Harrison Sen Hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal this day & year written

This Indenture made this ninth day of March in the year of
our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Between Joseph Harrison Junr of
the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina of the one part and Bentley
Harrison of the County of Iredell and State of North Carolina of the other part
wheretoforth that the said Joseph Harrison Junr and in ____ consideration of the
sum of one hundred thirty dollars in hand ____ paid by the said Bentley Harrison
the _____ whereof the said Joseph Harrison hath hereby acknowledges hath given
granted bargained and sold ____ and confirmed and by this _____doth give grant
Bargain and sell ____ and confirm unto said Bentley Harrison his heirs and

This Indenture made this twenty eighth day of december in the year of our Lord One Thousand and twenty five Between George Robertson of the one part and of State in Iredell County N.Carolina and James Bentley of the County of Wilkes and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said George Robertson hath sold and conveyed unto the said James Bentley a certain tract au parcel of land for and in consideration above of the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars to him in hand paid by the said of Robertson land in said county of Iredell Beginning at a stake formerly William Shaffers corner but now Benjamin Bentleys new corner thence North fifty three chains to a stake au said Bentley's line then East twenty five chains to a white oak then south twenty four chains to a forked white oak then south fifty six west til it becomes Square with the beginning and from ther to the beginning the whole Cuu____ au hundred and twenty eight acres be the same more or less being originally granted to the said Geo Robinson by a deed bearing date the ninth of Nov one thousand and eight hundred and two (1802) also all woods water ways water courses and the app____ ances these unto belonging and the said Geo Robinson for himself his heirs does warrant and de___ the afore said land to the said James Bentley and his heirs forever, au the said Geo Robinson doth warrant and demands the said land from all other just claims from all other person or persons whatsoever in witness here of the said Geo Robinson hath hereunto set his hand and seal this day & year first above written

This Indenture made the 16th May 1839 between Edmon Jones and
Joseph Harrison Sen. both of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina
witnesseth that he the said Edmon Jones for and in consideration of the sumof
six hundred Dollars to him in hand said by the said Joseph Harrison Sen. the
reciept whereof is hereby acknowledged and himself here with fully Sattisfied
and paid hath Hath given granted and bargained sold conveyed and granted
confirmed and by these presents doth freely grant bargain sell convey and
confirm to the said Joseph Harrison five Hundred and fifty one acres of land be
the same more or less in the county of Wilkes and State of North Carolina ____
several Tracts Adjoining and lying on North Sides of the Yadkin River generally
known by the name of the Richlands which said rural tracts was conveyed to the
said Edmon Jones from Thomas Paine by Deed of the 24th July 1822 Now this
indenture Witnesseth that the said Edmon Jones for the inconsideration aforesaid
doth give grant bargain sell convey and confirm to him the said Joseph Harrison
Sen the land aforesaid according ____ ____ and boundry of the six several Deeds
on grants & deeds of conveyance from the said Paine to the said Edmon Jones as
above to have and to hold to the said Joseph Harrison Senr his heirs and assigns
forever in a full free and ample a maner as if the several Beginnings marked and
Distances were herein ____ and specially laid down together with every right to
the priviledges and imoluments to the said lands belonging or in any were
Appertange to have and to hold to him the said Joseph Harrison Sen his heirs and
assigns forever free and ____ from the claims or demand of the said Edmon Jones
his heirs or assigns or from any person claiming under him or there un____

Harrison and Maryanne Moody Both of the County of Caldwell and State of North
Carolina witnesseth that the said Joseph Harrison for and in consideration of
the sum of Two Hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand ____ ____ ____ ____
Benjamin Moody the ____ whereof is Hereby Acknowledged and himself freely
satisfied and paid for ____ ____ hath granted sold and conveyed and by the
presents doth fully and absolutely and convey and confirm unto him the said
Benjamin Moody her ____ ____ ____ forever a certain parcel of land containing
fifty acres it being the following ____ of the Richland lying on the Yadkin
River ____ ____ ____ beginning on a Maple on the lower end of the Richland the
fence line on the West Bank of the Yadkin River near a path then West with some
ofsets one hundred poles to a ____ near the top of a ridge on a conditional
between the other part of the Richland, and the said fifty acres thence North
with the conditional line crossing the river at the lower end of the old Bottom
____ hole Eighty poles to a stake thence East with some of the ____ so as to
include all the tillable land ____ ____ below the old Bottom to the corner line
one hundred poles to a stake thence eighty poles to the Beginning containing
fifty acres ____ of the same ____ ____ together with every right ____
priviledges claim or emoliment to the said land belonging ____ ____ ____ to have
and to hold to him the said Benjamin Moody his heirs and assigns forever free
and clear from any person or persons ____ under him the said Joseph Harrison Sen

This indenture made the 28th of February 1846 Between
Benjamin Moody and John Story Witnesseth that he the said Benjamin Moody of the
one part of the County of Caldwell and John Story of the other part of the
county of Ashe both of the State of North Carolina that the said Benjamin Moody
have this day bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and by the presents doth
bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said John Story his heirs and assigns
forever a certain tract or parcel of land ____ lying and being in the County of
Caldwell and State of North Carolina on a Branch of Buffalo Creek Beginning at a
fork of said Branch on a Beach and turning West thirty two poles to a dogwood
thence North one Hundred poles to a gum and mountain Oak thence East Eighty
poles to a chestnut thence South one hundred poles to a stake thence West forty
eight poles to the Beginning. Containing fifty acres more or less to have and to
hold the afore said land and premises with the appletances to the said John Story
his heirs and assigns forever and the said Maryanne Moody as aforesaid doth
warrant and agree to and with the said John Story his heirs Executors
Administrators and assigns the aforesaid land and premises against the claim or
claims of all persons whatsoever to warrant and fedend in Testimony whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date above.

This indenture made this thirty first day of March 1841 Between Joseph Harrison Sen. of the County of Caldwell and State of NCarolina of the one part and Joseph Harrison Junr. of S (with a little backward above it) county and State of the other part witnesseth that he the S(s) Joseph Harrison Sen. for and in consideration of _____? the sum of one hundred and thirty Dollars to him in hand paid by him the said Joseph Harrison Junr before the Execution and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the S(s) Joseph Harrison Sen. doth acknowledge and himself fully Sattisfyed Contended and paid and for which sum he hath granted Sold and Conveyed and by these presents Doth fully and absolutely Sell Convey and Confirm unto him the Said Joseph Harrison Junr his heirs and assigns forever a certain parcel of Land containing fifty acres it being the lower part of the Richland and lying on the Yadkin River on both Sides beginning on a Maple at the lower end of the Richland near the Dennys Line on the West bank of the Yadkin River near a path thence West with some off set one thousand poles to a pine near the top of a ridge on a Conditional line between the other part of the Richland and Said fifty acres thence North with the conditional line Crossing the river at the lower End of the old Bottom above a hole eighty poles to a Stake thence East with some of sets so as to include all the Tillable land on the River below the old bottom to the Dennys line one hundred poles to a stake thence Eighty poles to the Beginning Containing fifty acres 'bet the Same more or less together with Every site tiller privelidges clame or emoluments to the S(s) Lands or in any ____? appertaining to have and to hold to him the S(s) Joseph Harrison Junr his heirs and assigns to hold to him the S(s) Joseph Harrison Junior his heirs and assigns forever free and clear from any person persons Claiming under him the Said Joseph Harrison Junr. his heirs in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year first above written.
