The petition of Elizabeth Morton
Exparte
respectfully showeth that John Morton late of Person County departed this life
in testate since the Term of this court and left your petitioner surviving by
reasons that said intestate died _____of ______articles of personal property out
of which your petitioner is entitled to a years provisions for herself and
family - your petitioner therefore prays your worships to appoint
______according to law and the rules and practice of this and to lay off and
allot to her, her years support and that your petitioner may have such other and
further relief ____ _____

This case coming on to be heard upon the petition and suggestion of Council it is ordered adjudged and decreed by the court John Rogers a Justice of the peace, John H. Clay, Jesse Chambers, and Abner A. Dixon Freeholders be appointed commissioned to lay off and allot to the petitioner out of the Stock, Crops, and provisions on hand one years support for herself & family and if this be not enough relief for they shall access the value of the sufficiency and upkeep to the next term of this court.

residence of John Morton, dec'd and have allotted to his widow, Elizabeth Morton
for her years provisions the following, Viz The Corn on hand and the
wheat, Bacon & Salt, also forty four dollars fifty one cents to make up the
deficiency, in the articles above mentioned given under our hands & seals this
28th June 1848

Elizabeth Morton & the children & heirs at law of John Morton deceased.
Exparte
Respectfully showeth that John Morton
late of Person County departed this life in Said County intestate since the last
Term of this Court seized and possessed of a tract of land in Said County
adjoining the land of Gabriel Bailey & others containing about 150 acres in
which your petitioner Elizabeth is entitled to Dower. Your petitioner therefore
pray your worships to order that a bond is sent to the Sheriff to Summon a jury
to lay off & alot to your petitioner Elizabeth her Dower in Said land & that
your petitioner may have such as her offer her relief as their ____ may require
& as in duty bound to do.

Sheriff Summon a jury of good & lawful men to lay off and alot to the petitioner
Elizabeth one third part in value of this land named in the petition (see copy)
for her Dower and report to the next Term of this Court under seal be

Pursuant to an order of the court of
Pleas and Quarter session June Term 1848 directing the Sheriff of said County to
summons a Jury of good and lawful men unconnected with the parties either by
_____ or affinity and entirely disinterested to lay off and allot dower
according to law to Elizabeth Morton out of the lands which her husband John
Morton died seized and possessed of John M. Winstead Sheriff of said
County the 24th day of August 1848 proceeded to the execution f the law by
summoning the undersigned free holding as Jurors, who after being duly sworn and
attended by William M. Faulkner as County Surveyor laid off and allotted said
dower by merits and bounds in the following manner to wit beginning at a path
thence West with Wm Ramseys line 90 poles to pointers thence South 40 poles to
stone & stump in field thence East 74 poles to pointer in East path thence a
long large East path as it meanders north to the beginning.
Situated in the aforesaid County of Person on the Waters of
Mill Creek Containing by estimation Twenty four acres - be the same men as ____
it being the third party of all the lands which the said John Morton died seized
and possessed of including the mansion house & c and first her the said
Elizabeth Morton and select of the said John Morton deceased in possession of
the same all of which is respectfully submitted given under our hands and seal
this the day and date above written.
