Welcome to Pat's Mayflower Family Lines - Family #1 - John HOWLAND
Patricia Jane Paddock Rowell was admitted to the Society of Mayflower Descendants in America, 26 Jan 1983, with John Howland as her passenger-ancestor. Pat joined through the Mother Lode Colony, Sacramento, California. She served several terms as Colony secretary, and Colony Vice Governor. After a health set-back, she retired from the board, but continues her active membership with that of her daughter.
Her direct line heritage to John Howland:
(1)John HOWLAND, born abt 1592, of Fenstanton, Huntingtonshire, ENG, was a passenger on the ship Mayflower that sailed from Plymouth, ENG in the fall of 1620. John was a manservant to Mr. John CARVER of London ENG, who became the first governor of New Plimoth Colony (Massachusetts). John was the 13th man to sign the Mayflower Compact which was an agreement that the able bodied men on the Mayflower signed. John was a son of Henry and Margaret HOWLAND. No baptism record has been found for John, but he was said to be "above eighty years" when he died 23 Feb 1672 in Rocky Nook, near Plymouth (MA). John's youngest brother, Henry HOWLAND, followed him to Plymouth, and the compiler's husband, Eugene O. Rowell, descends from Henry.
John HOWLAND married Elizabeth TILLEY (dau of John TILLEY and Joan (HURST) ROGERS), 25 Mar 1623(OS) at New Plymouth. The TILLEYs also were passengers on the Mayflower. Elizabeth was not quite 16 when she married John HOWLAND. Later in 1623, in a Division of Land, John HOWLAND received 4 acres of land as head of a household; 1 acre was his share, and 3 were Elizabeth's shares (1 for her and 2 for her deceased parents).

(2) *Desire HOWLAND, b about 1625-1626, Plymouth, (MA), the daughter of John HOWLAND and Elizabeth (TILLEY) HOWLAND. She married about 1643, Plymouth (MA), John GORHAM(3) who was baptized 28 Jan 1620-1621, in Benefeld, Northamptonshire, ENG. He was a son of Ralph GORHAM.

(3)* Shubael GORHAM, born 21 Oct 1667, Barnstable (MA), a son of John GORHAM and Desire (HOWLAND) GORHAM. He married in May 1695, on the island of Nantucket (MA), Puella HUSSEY, born on the island of Nantucket 10d, 10m, 1677, a daughter of Stephen HUSSEY and Martha (BUNKER) HUSSEY. Puella died in Barnstable (MA) before 23 Sep 1748, and Shubael died in Barnstable (MA) in 1750, reported to be his 83rd year.

Zachariah was born about 1700 on the island of Nantucket, a son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (COFFIN) BUNKER. Zachariah died on Nantucket 16 Aug 1757; and Desire died at Sherborn (MA) 5 Nov 1801 at the age of 91 years.
