New Jersey. He was working at Edisons. His sons, Bernard M. and Joseph G., were living with him as was his daughter
Florence M. Bernard M. and Joseph G. were both working as printers.
His final occupation was a hatter.
His obituary appeared in The Newark, New Jersey Evening News as follows:
Bernard J. Higgins, 76, of 92 Whittlesey Avenue, West Orange, New
Jersey died yesterday at Orange Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Higgins, a retired hatter, had lived in the Oranges since coming from
his native Ireland 55 years ago.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Catherine Higgins; four sons James and Frank
of West Orange, Joseph of Orange, and William of Montclair; two
daughters, Mrs. Frank Martin (Anna) of Orange and Mrs. Richard J. Powers
(Colleta) of Montclair; two brothers; Thomas of Orange, and Stephen of
Ireland and four sisters, Mrs. Delia Morahan and Mrs. Winifred Hart of Orange
and Mrs. Elizabeth Cassidy of Newark and Mrs. Anne Burns of Ireland.
Funeral will be from Home for Services, 56 Park Street, Montclair at
9:30 a.m. tomorrow to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, West Orange for a Solemn High Requiem Mass at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Catherine Swift Higgins, widow of Bernard J. Higgins, died yesterday at her home, 70 1/2 North Willow Street,
Montclair after a short illness of 10 days. Mrs. Higgins was born in Orange
in 1869 and had lived at 92 Whittlesey Avenue, West Orange, before making
her home in Montclair for the last five months.
Mrs. Higgins leaves four sons; William of Montclair, Joseph and Frank
of Orange and James of West Orange; two daughters, Mrs. Richard J. Powers of Montclair and Mrs. Frank Martin of Orange; a
brother, John Swift of Orange and two sisters, Mrs. Michael Dolan of
Orange and Mrs. Fred Haberle of Rahway. The funeral will be from the Home
for Services, 56 Park Street, Montclair, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A Solemn High Mass of
Requiem will be offered at Immaculate Conception Church, that town at 10:00
a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Orange.
