Joseph Higgins enlisted as a Private June 4,1861 at Camp Moore in
Captain Joseph Hanlon's Company 6th Regiment Louisiana Regiment* by Lt.
Phifer for the war.Noted on Jul/Aug roll that he was wounded at Gaines
Mills. Present on all rolls until he was wounded in Battle of Monacacy (Md)on
July 9,1864 Compiled record states he was born in Ireland and was a
Tinsmith by trade.Residence was given as New Orleans.He was 24 when he
enlisted. He was single. Another document within this record,which list
him as James Higgins, states that he was captured at Frederick Md on
July 10,1864 and had a gun shot wound back of knee,leg amputated through
lower thigh.Lists his death as July 28,1864.Notes that he was
temporarily buried in Hospital Cemetery at Frederick Md.(Cemetery
records state August,28,1864 as date of death)

Va.Given 60 day furlough to recover from thigh wound which occurred
November 27,1863. Furlough notes his residence as Mobile
Alabama.Admitted to hospital in Richmond Va on Jan 29,1864.
