A.B. Higgins ,of Christian County, Ky, was a Private in Company "D"
(and later Company "B") 7th Kentucky Cavalry. The only record of
this soldier is when his name appears on a roll of prisoners who
surrendered on May 4, 1865 at Citronelle, Alabama. He was paroled at
Columbus, Mississippi on May 16,1865.

Claudius V. Higgins joined for duty and enrolled for 3 years
service, at Camp Boone, Tennessee, on August 2,1861 as a Private in
Company "C" 2nd Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry. He was 18 years
old. He was enrolled by Lieutenant McCall and Captain Phil Lee. On
roll ending June 1,1862 he is listed as absent in Hospital. On roll
ending October 31,1862 he is listed as in hospital in Atlanta. On
Mar/Apr 1863 roll he is listed as deserted. He apparently was
captured. Is listed on a list of prisoners of war who were captured
at Nero, Kentucky on February 27,1863.Paroled at Louisville Kentucky
and sent to City Point Virginia for exchange on April 4,1863.
Name appears on a list of deserters from Rebel Army dated May 1864,
reported May 14,1864 at Shelbyville Kentucky. Took amnesty oath May
5,1864 and was order to stay north of the Ohio River until further
ordered. His oath notes the following information: residence is
Jefferson County, Kentucky, Dark Complexion, Dark Hair, Blue Eyes,5
foot 10 inches tall.

Joel Higgins ,age 27, joined for duty and enrolled as 1st Lieutenant of
R.J. Breckinridge's Company* Kentucky Infantry on July 5,1861, at Camp
Boone, Tennessee, appointed Captain on February 5,1862 when Vice Captain
R.J. Breckenridge resigned. Captured at Fort Donelson February 16,1862
and transferred to Camp Chase, Ohio, arriving there March 1,1862.He was
then transferred to Johnson Island, San dusky, Ohio on April 10,1862.
Still on Prisoner list on September 1,1862. Exchanged later in September
1862. Present on all rolls on May/Jun 1863 roll when he is listed as
AWOL from June 10,1863. On Jul to Oct roll is listed as Absent On Sick
Leave. Same on Nov/Dec roll. On Jan/Feb 1864 listed AWOL again. Listed
as present on Mar/Apr 1864 roll. Sent to hospital, sick, on July 20,1864.
Absent on 60 days leave from January 28,1865. Name appears on a list of
Confederate soldiers who surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama on May
4,1865 and paroled at Jackson, Mississippi on
May 15,1865.On parole he list his residence as Phillips County,
Arkansas.

JOEL HIGGINS, Lexington, Ky., was elected first
lieutenant, July 5, 1861; was promoted to captain, February 4, 1862; and
to major, September. 1864. He fought at Donelson, Hartsville,
Murfreesboro', Jackson, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Rocky Face Gap,
Resaca, and Dallas; from Dallas to Atlanta; at Peachtree, Intrenchmeut,
and Utoy Creeks; both days at Jonesboro', and in the mounted
engagements.

S.S. Higgins enlisted as a Private September 8, 1862 in Company "B",
Grigsby's regiment of Kentucky Cavalry* for 3 years service. He was
enlisted at Stanford KY by General Buford. Name appears on a roll of
prisoners who deserted and were sent to Military Prison February
5,1864 at Louisville, KY after having been captured at Lincoln
County, Kentucky. Discharged by taking oath of allegiance February
5, 1864.
Info from his Oath of Allegiance - Residence, Lincoln County,
Kentucky, Fair complexion, dark hair, Grey eyes, 5 foot 7 inches
tall.
* This company subsequently became Company "B" 6th Kentucky Cavalry.

Thomas Higgins enlisted as a Private October 5, 1862 in Company "E" of
Ben E. Caudill's Regiment of Kentucky Infantry* for 3 years service. He
was enlisted by Colonel Caudill at Whitesburg, Kentucky.He deserted
November 14,1862.
*This company subsequently became Company "E",13th Kentucky Cavalry.
