Marcus Henry Higgins Sr

Marcus Henry Higgins, Sr., was born September 25, 1915 in
Howe, Idaho to Marcus and Winona Higgins. When he was
a boy the family moved to El Paso, Texas, then San Miguel, New
Mexico where his father farmed. He graduated from Valley High School
in Anthony, New Mexico in 1935.
Marcus, also known as Mark or Markie intermingled farming and law
enforcement work for 14 years in New Mexico and Texas. He was
constable in San Miguel for four years, a guard at the La Tuna
Federal Prison, deputy sheriff, and motorcycle highway patrolman. In
1951 he moved his family to Elfrida, Arizona where he farmed until
1959 when he began driving truck in the Phelps Dodge open pit mine
in Bisbee. After the pit closed in 1974 he drove truck for CTI and
retired in 1980. He had several awards as a professional driver with
no moving citations.
Marcus died June 16, 2010 at the Copper Queen Hospital after a short
illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ethel;
his sons, Mike and Pat; and his siblings, Ivan,
Andrew, Leota, and Ethel Christine. He is
survived by his daughters and their husbands, Phil and
Audine Dieter of Vancouver, Washington, Arnold and
Christine Menke of Bisbee, two daughters-in-law, Barbara
Higgins of Prescott, Arizona, and Judi Phipps of Otis,
Oregon, twelve grandchildren, Lynn, Jamie,
Michelle, Lyndon, Jackie, Andy, Robert,
Jon, Robin, Garry, Catherine, and
Angela, thirty two great-grandchildren, and six great-great
grandchildren, many other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Two memorial services will be held. The first will be Saturday at
4:30 p.m. in the Bisbee SDA church on Naco Highway. The second will
be graveside in Mesquite, New Mexico at the Missionary Ridge
Cemetery at 2 p.m. where he will be buried beside his wife, Ethel.

Leon Wesley Higgins April 4, 1925 - April 1, 2008
Leon Wesley Higgins, 82, of Aztec died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in
Aztec. He was born April 4, 1925, in Blanchard, Okla.
Leon moved to the state in 1943. He married Viola in 1954 in Las
Cruces. Leon moved to San Juan County in 2003. He was employed
previously as an auto mechanic for 45 years. He served in the Army.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Higgins, in 2006; son
Ricky Higgins in 1999; and three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors are sons, James White and wife, Mary, of Santa Fe;
daughter, Teena Higgins of Aztec; sister, Debra Williams of Lindsay,
Okla.; brother, ClodasHiggins of Portales; five grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at New Covenant
United Methodist Church, conducted by Joe Morris and Rod Conover.
Burial will follow at Mission Gardens of Memories in Clovis.
Arrangements are with Alternative Choice, 804 N. Dustin Ave.,
Farmington; (505) 325-9611.

Frank "Chico" R. Martinez died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Reserve, N.M., to Perfecto and Petrita
Martinez.
Mr. Martinez served in the United States Navy during World War II,
with extensive service in the Pacific theater.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Erlinda; children Lucille
(Joe) White, Robert "Frankie" R. (Trudy) Martinez, Steven Martinez,
Patricia Martinez and Angelina Martinez, all of Flagstaff, and
Phyllis (Mike) Cancino of Phoenix; 21 grandchildren; and 21
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Hermino
Martinez, brother E.P. Martinez, sisters Natalia Griego and
Charlotte Higgins, son Henry Martinez, daughter Nadine Martinez, and
one grandson.
Rosary will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadelupe Church.
Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadelupe. Burial will
be in the veterans' section of Citizens Cemetery. Military honors
will by provided by the American Legion and V.F.W.
Norvel Owens Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

W. Clive Higgins, 82 of Manila, died on Wednesday, Aug. 27,
2008, at Manila Nursing Home in Manila. He was born June 8, 1926, in
Glennwood, New Mexico, to the late Nick Higgins and
Charlett Martinez. Mr. Higgins was a resident of Dyess, formerly
of Luna New Mexico. He was an Army veteran of World War II,
recipient of two bronze stars, loved gardening, woodworking and was
a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of thirty two years, Ola Mae
(Ainsworth ) Higgins of Dyess; three sons, Danny Higgins,
Michael Higgins, and Pat Higgins all of Las Vegas, Nev,;
Two daughters, Mona Virgilio of Palm Springs, Calif. and
Bonnie Higgins of Las Vegas, Nev.; three step-daughters,
Cathy Carter of Dyess, Norma Presley of Russellville,
Ala., and De De Shannon of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Tommy
Higgins of New Mexico; a sister, Flora Fullman of Silver
City, New Mexico; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, two step-sons, Ray
and Jerry Pittman.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Garden
Point Cemetery in Etowah with Rev. George Brewer officiating. The
family received visitors Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Faith Funeral
Service in Manila.
Faith Funeral Service of Manila was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Carter, Tommy Carter, K.C. Carter, Tommy E.
Carter, Wayne Wilbanks and Joey Shannon.
