SERIOUS ACCIDENT - Mr. Rody Higgins, a brakeman on Northern Central Railway, residing in this village, was so severely injured at Penn Yan on Tuesday of last week, that he died from his injuries on Friday. He was engaged in coupling cars, and in some manner two of them missed connecting, and caught his head between them, a large nut on a bolt crushing into the side of his head, making an ugly wound. His funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, and was attended by a large concourse of friends.

We are requested to call attention to the death of Barney Higgins, aged 50,an old resident ,lately living in Flushing Avenue near Walworth Street, where he leaves a wife and two children in destitute circumstances. His only grown son, and on whom the family depended, is a soldier in Company D,40th(Mozart) Regiment, now fighting the battles of his country in front of Richmond.

Civil War pension records show Timothy Higgins received an invalid's pension December 24, 1864 for his service as noted above. His date of death is noted as November 25, 1929 at Elizabeth New Jersey.
