Mary Ellen Higgins (nee Woody) received a widows pension in 1863 for her
Husband's
Henry H. Higgins service in Company "G" 1st Delaware Infantry of the Union
Army. Her address was given as Wilmington Mercantile Company, Delaware,
another address is given as 213 West 4th Street ,Wilmington, Delaware.
She states they were married June 16, 1859 by the Justice of the Peace
in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Her pension file states her husband
died on December 25,1862 of wounds received in battle December
13,1862.His last rank was reported as a Sergeant. His file further
states he died at Mount Pleasant Hospital, Washington, D. C. and that
his wounds were received in Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Witnesses on her application were Matilda Moody and George Rodney
Higgins.

Further details given in file state Henry H. Higgins enrolled for
enlistment on August 28,1861 at Wilmington Delaware for 3 years or war,
was mustered in as a Corporal* on September 2,1861 in Company "G"
