Abraham David Mitchell's father was of Sottish/Irish descent, he was 25 years old when he came to Cecil County, MD, from Lancaster County, PA.  He bought property at Fairhill, MD in 1781 from Strawbridge family. The property located on a main intersection has been a hotel, the post office, and then a home. This building is now a fine restaurant "the Fairhill Inn." He was a member of the Rock Presbyterian Church, located very near his Fairhill home. There is some reason to believe he may be buried there.

Abraham also had a home in Elkton, MD which he converted into a hospital during the Revolutionary War, where he treated Patriot soldiers. It is said that Lafayette, a friend of Abraham's son, George, visited Fairhill during this time. The Elkton home has been maintained and is now a law office, located next to the Cecil County Historical Society. It is rumored to be haunted.

Abraham was recognized as one of the most distinguished physicians of his time. His practice extended over the greater part of Cecil County, Hartford County, and Newcastle County (now Delaware).

His cousin Alexander Mitchell was the Presbyterian minister at Octoraro & Doe Run Churches in Chester County, PA.

Mitchell and the daughter of Forrest Jay Mitchell, Sr). Forrest Jay Mitchell, Sr., was residing at 1329 Amherst Avenue, Richmond, VA at the time of his death.
