Alice Valiga, 77, of Aliquippa, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2004 in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 20, 1926 in Rochester, a daughter of the late James and Aphrodite Gianiodis, she was a member of the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church. She retired from P.M. Moore, where she worked as a secretary for over 25 years. Alice was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by two sons, James Valiga and wife Annette, Ambridge and Richard Valiga, Aliquippa; five beautiful grandchildren, Jody Murphy and husband Brenden, Donegal, PA, Michael Valiga, Aliquippa, James Valiga, Freedom, John Valiga, Ambridge and Katie Valiga, Ambridge; a sister, Irene Gartley and husband Carl, Aliquippa; two nephews Carl and Billy Gartley, Hopewell and a niece, Karen Gartley,Hopewell. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Valiga, Jr.; a sister, Mary Stakias; a niece Sandy Stakias and a nephew, Theodore Stakias. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa(www.darrochfuneralhome.com), where a Panichida service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30am. A funeral service will follow at 10am in the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, Aliquippa, with her pastor, Elias O’Brien officiating. Parastas (blessing service) will be held on Tuesday at 7pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
