John Calvin Helms son of Christopher Elijah "Lige" Helms and Mary Mahaley "Minnie" Wesley was born 17 Jan 1896 in Burkett, Coleman County, Texas and died 13 Feb 1971 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.. He was a Pvt in the 19th Infantry during WW I.

He married Jettie Mae Underwood daughter of George Washington Underwood and Eliza Ann Rodgers 13 Dec 1923. Jettie was born 09 May 1905 in Clairemont, Kent County, Texas and died 26 Sep 1983 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas and is buried at Post Cemetery, Garza County, Texas.

He married a second time to Pauline McWilliams daughter of Walter McWilliams and Ella P. Jacob 03 Dec 1936 in Roby, Fisher County, Texas. She was born 24 Mar 1909 in Fisher County,Texas and died 02 Dec 2006 in Lubbock County, Texas. They are both buried at Cottonwood Flat Cemetery, Scurry County, Texas.

OBITUARY: PAULINE F. HELMS

POST-Pauline F. Helms, 97, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, in a Lubbock Hospital. Servcies were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Weathers-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Cottonwood Flat Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born March 24, 1909, Pauline was a daughter of the late Walter and Ella P. (Jacob) McWilliams. She married John Calvin Helms on December 3, 1936 in Roby. Pauline was the wife of a pioneer rancher which took them to various ranches throughout Texas. She was also a seamstress and worked in an upholstery shop in Rotan and enjoyed quilting. Pauline lived in Rotan until 1980, moved to Sweetwater and then to Post in 2001. Pauline was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, her parents, one daughter, Christine Howle, one son-in-law, Bill Howle, five brothers and sisters and one great-grandson, Scott Metsgar.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Stanley Howle and his wife Donna of Lubbock and Tricia Metsgar and her husband Ronnie of Post; four great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
