George Washington Patterson and Rebecca Elizabeth Young

George Washington Patterson son of George Patterson and Susan Garren with his three daughters. He was born 06 Feb 1845 in Monroe County, Tennessee and died 18 Nov 1918 in Lane Prairie, Johnson County, Texas. He married Rebecca Elizabeth Young daughter of Joseph Alexander Young and Mary Ann "Polly" Vaughn 02 Jun 1869 in Blount County, Tennessee. George Washington Patterson and Rebecca Elizabeth Young came from Monroe County, Tennessee to Johnson County, Texas after the Civil War. He was a sergeant in B Company, 3rd Tennessee Infantry, Vaughn Cavalry Brigade, Confederate Army. General John Crawford Vaughn, the commanding officer of the 3rd Tennessee Volunteers was his uncle on his mothers side of the family. His brother-in-law Robert Ralston Young was also a member of this outfit. They settled outside Fort Worth, Texas in Johnson County where he purchased land and began farming in the Lane Prairie community area. The family stories are that he built the first cotton gins in the area. The Cleburne newspaper dated 10 December 1898 stated that "G.W. Patterson has bought the gin site recently vacated by Duckworth and is perparing to erect gin and mill". Several members of the family appear to have moved from Monroe County, Tennessee to Johnson County around 1870. It is known that 6 of the children of his brother James Madison Patterson settled in the Johnson County area. They were Cornealius, Francis Marion, John Wesley, Addie, Jefferson E., George W.. Rebecca Elizabeth Youngs parents Joseph Alexander Young and Mary Ann Vaughn along with most of their children also moved to Johnson County, Texas around the same time. George, his wife Rebecca Elizabeth Young, and two daughters Minnie Crawford Patterson McKee and Zella M. Patterson are buried in the Lane Prairie Cemetery in Johnson County, Texas.

George Washington Patterson married Manda Dora Doak after the death of Rebecca Elizabeth Young in 1894. She had a son, Auburn B. Tulley, from a previous marriage to P.R. Tulley. George and Manda had a daughter, Zella M., that died at 13 months of age. It is believed that Manda Dora Doak was the daughter of the founder of Trinity College in Texas and the first president of Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Monroe County, Tennessee. It is not clear whether her father was Samuel Doak or his brother Robert E. Doak.

George bought 55 acres of land on 18 March 1876 from H.A & S. Lockett, Administrators of E. & N. Nunn. Original was P. Golden. See Deed Book O, page 427.

G.W. Patterson etal bought 200 acres from C.Y. Kouns Atty. for E.W. Cheatham on 27 November 1880. Original was C. Chaney. See Deed Book V, page 113-115.

G.W. Patterson bought 58 acres from W.B. McPherson on 1 December 1882. Original was P. Golden. See Deed Book 25, page357

George and Rebecca Elizabeth had seven children

1 - Minnie Crawford Patterson  was born 19 Sep 1870 in Johnson County, Texas and died 08 Aug 1950 in Joshua, Johnson County, Texas. She married William Thomas McKee son of Andrew J and Ann E. McKee 20 Dec 1888 in Johnson County, Texas. He was born 10 Aug 1863 in Texas and died 07 Mar 1930 in Joshua, Johnson County, Texas. They are both buried at Lane Prarie Cemetery, Johnson County, Texas.

- Robert Ralston Patterson born 13 Nov 1873 in Johnson County, Texas and died 29 May 1943 in  St. Mary's Infirmary Galveston, Galveston County, Texas.  He is buried at Ollender Cemetery, Galveston, Texas. According to his Death Certificate he was married.

3 - Joseph A. Patterson born ABT 1875 Johnson County, Texas. His death and whereabouts unknown.

4 - Charlie Lee Patterson born 10 Jan 1878 in Johnson County, Texas and died in 27 Nov 1952 Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. He married Sarah May DeBusk daughter of James Jackson DeBusk and Lucy Ann Aynes 23 Feb 1921 in Jones County, Texas. She was born 25 Jan 1899 in Grosvenor, Brown County, Texas and died 30 Sep 1986 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. They are both buried at Resthaven Memorial Park, Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.

5 - George Patterson born Jan 1879 in Johnson County, Texas. His death and whereabouts unknown.

6 - Addye E. Patterson was born 05 Oct 1882 in Johnson County, Texas and died 12 Dec 1959  in Johnson County, Texas.  She married Steve Stinson LeSueur son of Zackery Taylor LeSueur and Eula G. Darden. He was born 19 Dec 1878 in Arkansas and died 10 Apr 1944 in Johnson County, Texas. He was hired by the GC and SF Railroad as an Engineer January 2, 1906. 

7 - Mary Frances Patterson   was born 01 Apr 1886 in Lane Prairie, Johnson County, Texas and died 16 Jun 1960 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. She married De Frank Howell 07 Nov 1900 in Johnson County, Texas. Frank owned a drug store located on Evans Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas. They lived down the street. Frank also owned a Gunn Pharmacy on 1125 East Richmond in Fort Worth, Texas.  He was born 14 Nov 1883 and died 26 Feb 1960 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. They are both buried in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. They did not have children.
