Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. He married Wilma June Chastain 02 Nov
1946 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. He is buried at
Fairview Cemetery, Grosvenor, Brown County,
Texas.

Obituary of Claude Elijah Carmichael
Claude E. Carmichael was born September 10, 1924 in Brown County
to Charles C. and Beulah DeBusk Carmichael. He attended schools in
Brownwood, graduating from Brownwood High School in 1942. After
attending Howard Payne College for one year, he enlisted in the U.S.
Navy. He attended training classes at Southwestern Louisiana and Notre
Dame University. He served on the SS Soloma in the Panama and
Philippine Island territories and was discharged in 1946. He was
married to June Chastain in November of 1946 and later received his BS
degree from Howard Payne College in 1948. He was a member of the
Howard Payne track team of 1948 that was honored at Homecoming 2008.
He received a Masters of Education degree from East Texas State
University, (now Texas A&M at Commerce) in 1950. He began his teaching
career in Forney, Texas, serving as elementary school principal and
assistant high school coach. He taught and coached in the Brownwood
Independent School District for 32 years at Central Elementary,
Northwest Elementary, and South Elementary.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist
Church where he served as Junior Boys Sunday School teacher and as
Royal Ambassadors Director. He also served on other various
committees. He served on the Board of Directors of the Fairview
Cemetery and as President of the Fairview Cemetery Association for
several years. He had been a member of the Texas State Teachers
Association and the Brown County Retired Teachers Association. He is
survived by his wife, June Chastain of Brownwood; two sons, C. E.
Carmichael and wife Jennie and Jimmy Carmichael; four grandchildren,
Stacie Earnest and husband Keith, Betsy Schara and husband Rivers,
Andrew Carmichael and wife Alli, and Erin Hudson and husband Josh; and
nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law,
Grady Chastain and wife Pat; two sisters-in-law, Betty Flynn and
Allene Davis and her husband Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews
also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
Howard Carmichael and wife Catherine; a sister, Lucille Williams
Carmichael; and a granddaughter.
