MOUNT AIRY - Mr. John Clinton Rose Jr., 76, of 329 Pender St. passed away Sunday, Aug. 5,2001, at the Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Rose was born in Surry County on Oct. 16, 1924, the son of the late John Clinton Rose Sr. and Pearl Tolbert Rose.
He was employed by Scenic Motors for 24 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Rose had been in declining health for the past year and was recovering in Mount Airy from a recent surgery. He was well-known throughout Surry County and will be greatly missed by his many friends,as well as by all his family.
Survivors include three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret R. and Ray Webb of Elkin,Betty Rose and Meredith White of Windsor and Ruth Golding of Mount Airy; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Edward E. Rose of Glendale, Calif., William "Bill" L. Rose of Mount Airy and Stanley M. and Phyllis Scott Rose of Raleigh; and a special niece, Von G. Jessup of Mount Airy. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews who have wonderful memories of family reunions at his home. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rose was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy R. Snow and Virginia R. Harbour; and two brothers, Dennis Cecil Rose and Robert S. Rose.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Ray Hamilton, Dr. James Baughn and the Rev. Raymond Martin. Burial will be in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Airy Elk's Lodge Boys' Camp, Highway 52 N. Bypass, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to Highland Park Baptist Church College Scholarship Fund, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
