Port Royal Times obituary, October 11, 1888

AN OLD JUNIATIAN GONE.

Among the hundreds who have emigrated from Juniata county to the great west few have been more useful, successful and long lived than the subject of this notice. Born on the Tuscarora creek, near Milliken’s grove, May 15, 1802, George Beale departed this life at Earlville, LaSalle county, Illinois, September 12, 1888. He was married to Miss Jane Milliken, sister of Mrs. Milly Beale, May 6, 1830, and lived until May 1852, on his farm in Tuscarora valley, when, with nine children and a maiden sister, Mr. and Mrs. Beale moved to the State of Illinois. The Earlville Leader says: “In the early part of 1852 Mr. Beale came westward, settling in this vicinity, where he has ever since resided, and honored and upright citizen, one whom to know was to love. His life was long, and occupied in many spheres of usefulness and business. He has seen the waste places become fruitful fields, and the treeless prairie become beautiful with groves, and the highways sheltered with spreading branches. He has seen the little one with a few million of pelple become a mighty nation, and now, with a heart crying “Let all thank God,” he lies down to rest. He reared an honored and useful family, who lovingly cared for him during his declining years, and who remain as a monument to his upright life.

His esteemed wife, only two years younger than himself, and eight children survive him. Three children have preceded him to the eternal world: Jane Mary, who died before they emigrated to the west; Abner who gave his life to his country, and Elizabeth Long, who departed recently. The following are the names of the living children: William D., James M., Adaline, Hannah, Ann, Edith, Harvey, Samuel and Mary J. The last named was born after the family moved to Illinois. These are all married except Adaline, who has devoted her life to her aged parents.
