Frederick Clarence Milligan
Frederick Clarence Milligan was the
middle child and only son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Milligan. He was born while his parents
were living in Brooklyn. He graduated from St Lawrence University in 1896. During
the Spanish American
war he enlisted into the Army on April 22, 1899 and was discharged on February 27,
1900. His enlistment register indicated that he was "not suited for the service."
However he was a member of the National Guard for at least 17 years. According to
his military records he was 5'3" in height with brown eyes, brown hair and a fair
complexion. When he was in his 40s he registered for the draft for World War I but
was not drafted. In 1918 he was working for the Rochester Herald as a proofreader.
After he left the military he followed his father into publishing.
He worked as a proofreader for the Democrat & Chronicle.

Frederick and Edyth Andrews were married September 17, 1903 in Bethany, NY. Frederick worked for C.C. Hermans Insurance Agency at 324 in the Granite Building in 1905 and then moved to New York City in 1906. In 1908 he is back at 6 Selye Terrace. In 1916 he purchased the Webster News, a weekly newspaper in that town which he sold a year later. He and Edyth lived on Selye Terrace for a number of years before moving to 233 Fulton Avenue. In 1920 they moved to 51 Chandler Street where they built a house. Frederick lived at that house until his death. He was a member of the First Universalist Church, which was where his mother worshipped.
