Wendell was listed as Head of the Household on the Indian Census at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Porcupine District, Shannon Co., South Dakota, USA, on June 30, 1904.2 He applied for homestead land at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Bennett Co., South Dakota, USA, on December 18, 1906.3 Wendell died after 1920.

Ulala Smoke (F)

     Ulala Smoke was also known as Spotted Horse Woman. Ulala died. Ulala was born circa 1843. She was the daughter of Chief (?) Smoke and (?) Yellow Haired Woman.1 She married Tom Conroy Capt. at Fort Laramie Region, USA, circa 1858. Ulala met her first husband, Capt. Tom Conroy, at Fort Laramie, Wyo. He had gone there to operate a trading post and blacksmith shop. They had three children togather: Mary, John, and a third child whom Capt. Conroy took with him when the couple seperated. Ulala and Capt. Conroy seperated after a family disagreement and never saw each other again. Capt. Conroy took the three children, and Ulala went back to her people. Sometime later, Ulala returned to Fort Laramie and found John and Mary alone in a cabin with the door latched. She had John unlatch the door with a broom handle. She took the two children back to her people in the Powder River Country where they were raised as Indians.. She moved in 1877 at Powder River Region (MT.). When Crazy Horse surrendered at Fort Robinson in 1877, Ulala and her children were listed on the surrender ledger since Ulala was a friend of Crazy Horse's mother.
     She was listed in the Crazy Horse Surrender Ledger of November 8th, 1876, as a head of a household and as having arrived with the Oglala and having a family composition of "2 Sqauws, 2 Male children, 2 Female children being listed in the same lodge. She was again listed on the February 16th 1877 register as part of the American Horse Band, and having a family composition 4 Adult Females, 2 Male children, 2 Female children being listed in the same lodge. She was again listed on the February 16th 1877 register as part of the American Horse Band, and having a family composition 4 Adult Females, 2 Male children, and 1 Female Child. On March 1st, 1877 she received one Hide ticket for her household..

     Tom died. He was employed at Fort Laramie (1849 - 1890), Goshen Co., Nebraska Territory, USA. Tom was born circa 1840. He married Ulala Smoke at Fort Laramie Region, USA, circa 1858. Ulala met her first husband, Capt. Tom Conroy, at Fort Laramie, Wyo. He had gone there to operate a trading post and blacksmith shop. She was again listed on the February 16th 1877 register as part of the American Horse Band, and having a family composition 4 Adult Females, 2 Male children, 2 Female children being listed in the same lodge. She was again listed on the February 16th 1877 register as part of the American Horse Band, and having a family composition 4 Adult Females, 2 Male children, and 1 Female Child. On March 1st, 1877 she received one Hide ticket for her household.. She married Alexander Williams circa 1880.1

     Eldridge died. Eldridge was born circa 1840.1 He resided at Weld Co., Colorado, USA, circa 1870, Elbridge Gerry, the first white settler in Weld County, Colo., who operated a trading post near Greeley and a woman who was a Featherman or a daughter of a Featherman.

Unknown Sister Twiss was travel in 1870; "About 1870 after her bother Thomas S. Twiss died she came from the East and traveled to Rulo, Nebraska to settle his estate. She found his Indian family at the farm and must have been shocked. Retreating, she took a specimen with her-the next to youngest nephew, William."1 Unknown died after 1871.
