From 1963 through 1967 their Grandson (author) Michael stayed with them quite often and had his own room. While living in L.A. they had given up driving and walked pretty much everywhere they needed. Grandma would grab her umbrella and cart, Grandpa Conway his cap, coin purse and cigarettes, and we where off for groceries every Saturday. Grandpa loved baseball and I have many found memories of heading to the Batting cage to hit balls, going to triple A games, or Dodger Games. Some times Grandpa and I headed out to sneek a .25 pizza, Coke, and a Hersey Bar. Some Saturday's we headed to Verdogo Public pool where Grandpa taught me to swim and dive for quarters. They loved the ocean and we took many trips to Long Beach to see the ships or Santa Monica to swim or walk the boardwalks. They eventually moved to an apartment where Grandpa gave up his yards, but still helped the apartment manager with the grounds. While there Grandma Louise's sister Vi (Grandma) moved to the same apartment., at Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California, USA, after 1959.1

They had a nice home overlooking the bay and not far from the ocean were spent there days walking on the boardwalk and piers and watching the kids skating at at the mall. He loved to take his binoculars with him on his trips to the ocean and scan the waters for ships. Perhaps his longing to be at the sea of his youth. After Grandma Louise fell and broke her hip they decided it was time to move closer to their adopted daughter Patricia Stevens in Wisconson., at San Diego, San Diego Co., California, USA, after 1980.1 Louise, as Michael Joseph Conway's wife, resided with him Mike and Louise found an apartment in Greenbay, Wis a short distance from their daughter Patricia and their Grandchildren who live on farmland the Oneida Indian Reservation. Mike and Louise many days out at the Stevens Farm sitting outside enjoying their Grandchildren around them., at Greenbay, Brown Co., Wisconsin, USA, after 1980.1
Louise died on December 28, 1997 at Greenbay, Brown Co., Wisconsin, USA, at age 89. Her body was interred in 1999 at Cuny Table, Shannon Co., South Dakota, USA, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Grandma's Louis's ashes where buried at the cemetery where she grew up. Her ashes rest next to her brother Stanley and her husband Michael Conway..

An unknown person nF was enrolled with the Oglala Sioux(!) and assigned an enrollment number of Oglala Sioux(!).1 David died on May 8, 1964 at USA at age 51.1

James L. Janis1,2 (M)
(April 2, 1915-January 25, 1945), #268

     James was born at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Porcupine, Shannon Co., South Dakota, USA, on April 2, 1915.1,2 He was the son of James Janis and Lucy Cottier. An unknown person nF was enrolled with the Oglala Sioux(!) and assigned an enrollment number of Oglala Sioux(!).1 James L. Janis was mlt active duty on November 19, 1943; "James was inducted into the military service on November 19, 1943 at Fort Crook, Nebraska and he transferred to the Enlisted Reserve Corps on the same date. James reported for active duty at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on December 10, 1943 and left the United States for foreign service on January 1, 1945."2 James died on January 25, 1945 at Luxembourg at age 29.1,2 He was buried on June 26, 1949 at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, Meade Co., South Dakota, USA; "James was buried at the Hamm United States Military Cemetery located two and one-half miles east of the City of Luxembourg. In 1949, James Janis was returned to South Dakota and on June 26, 1949 he was interred at the National Cemetery at Sturgis, South Dakota. James L. Janis will not be forgotten by the ones who loved him."2
