Adam & sons took the oath of allegience and aburgation arriving on the ship "Samuel", Hugh Percy, commander.6 He left a will on 31 Mar 1755 at York, PA; A-101/104 was witnesssed by William Pecker, George Swope, and Harman Miller and was probated 16 Apr 1755 with wife Maria Catharina and friend Jacob Billmeyer as executors.7

After John married a second time, he lived in a two room house and then they lived on a farm. They then took an oath to go to Kansas. They went and burned out and lost all they had then they came back and had a farm on 42nd street.

John was a plesant and nice person. Sue was firey. They had an orchard or something - someone broke off one of the trees and Sue always thought that her nephew, John Ellenberger, did it as he was down there at the time when the tree was broken. John never did see the tree - he was just a little kid.

John Deel seemed to always keep Sue under control. All he had to say was "allright, that's enough". Sue had Asma. To John and Missouri were born:

Mary use to take trips down to visit Arlona at the boarding houses of Kate and Elmer Allen where she had a room downstairs and a room upstairs. Here she cooked and lived by herself. She had a stroke and couldn't write, so when Ester Bower started school and learned to write, she tried to teach Mary how to rewrite. Mary was very patient with Esther's teaching lessons.

Mary was a very reserved person compared to Susan Kemp which was a very robust person. Both Mary ansd Susan were grandmothers to Esther Bower.136

Luther8 Bower (Mary7Deel, Hughy6, Samuel5, Peter4, George3Diehl, John2, Hans1) was born on 12 Feb 1872 at VA.153,154 He married Eva Lottie Kemp, daughter of Benjamin Joseph Kemp and Susan Francis Martin, on 4 Nov 1906 at Sunday at 8 PM; When Luther and Eva were married, William and Nellie (Kemp) Fink stood up for them where a preacher performed a quite ceremony.155,156,157 He died on 28 Jan 1946 at IN at age 73. He was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion, IN.158

He was Luther was a farmer as his father and when he got married, it was only natural that he started farming.

Bill Shields was a hired hand that use to work on the farm and lived with the Bowers. Esther remembers Bill as he use to spoon feed coffee to her when she was a baby. Luther also had a black family as tenants.

Before Luther moved to his farm in 1914 he use to go to the Quackerville Methodist Church, but when he got to the farm, church was not close by. The church goers in Hancock County where they moved to were not farmers. Luther would rather stay home and work on the farm rather than go to the Baptist Church as there was no Methodist Church in the area. When Luther moved to the farm, Floyd helped them move on Valentines Day and he lived with them for awhile.

Luther farmed corn, wheat, and oats on a farm of seventy two acres. He farmed tomatoes for Van Camps and after school, Esther help load tomatoes where Luther would lift the tomatoes up to Esther and she would load them on the flat bead of the truck - hampers. Luther hired neighbor women to help him with the tomato picking. This was thru the early thirties when they started bringing in migrant workers. The tomatoes phased out and then came soybeans. Luther also had horses, cows for milk, hoges and chickens.

Eva, his wife, never worked outside. As a young lady and again as his wife, Eva always worked in the house. After Eva's death in the early forties, Luther grain rented. Luther had rheumatism as a young man.

"Mrs Luther Bowers of the Amith neighborhood, who had been sick many months, passes away Saturday at 12:30. Funeral services were held at the home Monday at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor. Burial in Crown Hill. Mrs Bowers had been a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church for a number of years and was a women of fine Christian character". She was Arlona worked as a chamber maid at ???? etc after 1926.
