- SMITH Will - Washington County - 1818
Robert SMITH died c 1818 with a will stating part of lands purchased from John BUCHANAN, trustee of James CHAPLINE, to Samuel Merrit HITT, who immediately took possession of the land after the death of Smith, receiving the profits thereof . HITT and Archibald M. WAUGH were executors of Smiths’s will but Waugh has since died (before Dec 1829) leaving HITT as surviving executor. Will of Robert SMITH written 20 May 1816, probated 28 Oct 1818 .....John REYNOLDS and wife Mary (house in Hagerstown where they live) ..........their son, John REYNOLDS Jr .....niece/ Susannah TAIS .....negro slave, JOHN to be freed three months after Smith’s death .....niece/ Margaret w/o Martin HITT of Ohio - to their children - ..........Samuel Merrit HITT of Ohio ..........Thomas Smith HITT of Ohio? exec/ Samuel Merrit HITT and friend, Archibald M. died about 24 Mar 1830 w/o issue will dtd 14 Mar 1830 for his share to be divided amongst his heirs, ...also freed his slaves, PRISS, GEORGE, JACK and SALL
