This is a photograph of my Great Grandmother, Selina Dove, who was born 1846. Her parents were Daniel Dove, born 29.10.1809. at Shalfleet, Isle of Wight and Jane Hendy, born 22.12.1811. at Shalfleet. My sister, who is 80, remembers Selina and says she had a British accent, which she loved to hear when Selina spoke. Selina died 1932. Daniel Dove's and Jane Hendy's marriage is the link into my Hendy-Dove connection. Two of Jane's other sisters, Frances and Ann Hendy, married two of Daniel's other brothers, James and William Dove respectively.
The children of Daniel and Jane Hendy Dove were:
Henry Dove b Shalfleet 1833;
Charles Dove b Shalfleet
1836; Jacob Dove b
Shalfleet 1838; Edwin Dove b Shalfleet 1839;
Albert Dove b Shalfleet 1840 m Ann Campbell? Port Huron, MI 4 Nov 1864;
Hannah Dove b Shalfleet 1842; Selina Dove b Shalfleet 19 Jun 1843 d
Stamford, CT 18 Apr 1932 buried Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT m Port
Huron, MI 27 May 1859 Stephen Decatur Couch; Davis Dove b Shalfleet 1848;
Andrew Dove b Shalfleet 1848 (had a son Walter George Dove b Sep 1869);
Mary Ann Dove b MI 1852; Elizabeth Dove b MI 1854; George Dove b MI 1856. I visited my grandfather's brother after my grandfather had died and he told me a few things about the Dove's. Thy had left England with 13 children and 4 died enroute to America. He remembered them by their nicknames. Gib who had one son. Abe who had 1 son and 1 daughter. Jack who had 3 sons and 2 daughters and one of his daughters, Sena, married Archie Campbell in Goodells, MI. George had no children. Andrew had 1 son and went to NE. Pollie had 2 daughters. Now I realize these nicknames cannot be compared to the original names unless the IGI is wrong in giving these children to Daniel and Jane where I got them from. This is a problem that will have to be solved. There was also Sizzy, Selina and Hannah. The last two can be compared to the IGI as can Andrew and George. Such a web our ancestors wove for us and why couldn't they have kept better records of each family? Now that's a good joke isn't it and what would we be doing if they had? My goodness, we would have nothing to do. Dove Michael Dove b 1771 & Mary Dove Daniel Dove b 1808 & Jane Hendy b 1810. (The Hendy-Dove connection).
