In 1851 he bought Crown Land on W1C2 Lot 5, Con4 comprising one hundred acres extending from what was known as Henry Gibson's Rd, east along County Rd 21 (Cobden Rd) to the corner where the road turns toward Beachburg. Thhis farm in turn was then divided into two fifty acres on the eastern side being sold to his son Thomas and the other fifty acres on the west side to his other son David Jr. As this strip of land was only half of the width in depth, a man by the name of Ritchie owned the other half parallel to the ross lots. Mr. Ritchie eventually sold his entire farm and Thomas Ross bought the fifty behind hsi and they each had one hundred acre farms.(2)
David Ross Jr had a son James to whom he sold his hundred acres.

1. David ROSS, Sr. emigrated to Canada in 1835.1901 census ross twp: emigrated 1835
David Ross emigrated to Canada from Scotland with his parents James Ross and Elizabeth Galla, early in the nineteenth century. They settled on the eastern shore of Muskrat Lake. Because James quickly paid off his land, he asked the Twp Council for a reduction in the price of land, but the Council named the Twp "Ross" in lieu of granting this request. David was teh oldest son in a family of eleven children. In 1851 he bought 100 acres of Crown Land W1/2 Lot 5 Con 4 Ross Twp for 25 pounds. This hundred acres stretched from Neil's Lane east along County Rd 21 to the corner where the road turns toward Beachburg. The first land tax was $5.00 as compared to $260.96 in 1968. The land was covered with bush so had to be cleared to build a house. With the help of neighbours, a shanty was built David walked to foresters Falls to the present location of Millar's store, was married there to Jane Evans, and together they walked home to their farm.
A creek ran all the way though David Ross's farm, and livestock could drink there from any field on the farm. There was also abundant fish in the spring of the year, when they came out of Gibson's Lake to spawn.(3)

On May 29, it was announced by Dr. Pyne, as Acting Prime Minister... "In addition to this offer the Government is arranging to provide at once six motor-ambulances, which will be sent to France, and will be added to thelife-saving appliances the army employs for removing wounded from the field. Lieut.-Col. A.E. Ross, M.D., M.L.A., of Kingston, who is at the Front, has advised the Government that htese ambulances are urgently required."... On the next page, the article continues: ... At the close of the year (and early in 1916) there were 14 members of the Legislature employed on War service of some kind - Major D.M. Hogarth, Capt. T. Magladery, Lieut. A. W. Nixon, Lieut.-Col. A. E. Ross - on active service..... >From "Canada in the Great War" Vol. IV: (This is in reference to the Battle of Passchendaele, Oct 1917): ..... The Medical Services faced a problem unprecedented in their history. There were grave faces at Corps Headquarters when men discussed the evacuation of the wounded.
