1. Matthew MURPHY ^{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10} was born in 1814 in Portarlington, Kings County, Ireland. He died in 1887 in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada. He was buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Aylmer, Quebec.

One story "Arrived in Canada from Dublin, Ireland in 1828; Climbed Brock Monument in 1838; to South Hull in 1868"

Another version is that "he came from Tralee, Co. Kerry, to Pennsylvania in 1840's and then to Bytown" (ref: Arnie Lucas' draft chapter on Ella May ROSS)

Matthew married (1) Elizabeth Catherine "Betsy" EBERT ^{1, 2} daughter of Martin Jr. EBERT and Roxanne WALLER on 27 Jun 1842 in Christs Church,Nepean Twp, Canada West. Elizabeth was born in 1815 in Utica, Oneida County, New York, USA. She died in 1873 in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada. She was buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Aylmer, Quebec.

Matthew married (2) Martha WRIGHT ¹ after 1873. Martha was born in 1830. She died on 20 Jan 1909 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was buried on 21 Jan 1909 in Conroy's (Bellevue) Cemetery, Aylmer, Quebec.

MURPHY At the Perley Home on Wednesday, Jan 20, 1909, Martha Wright, relict of the late Matthew Murphy, aged 79 years.
The funeral will leave the residence of J. A. Murphy, 412 McLeod St., at 2 o’clock p.m. Thursday, 20th instant, for Conroy’s cemetery, Aylmer Road.
