Read an article about Mrs E.G. Ward on her ninetieth birthday.

Almost immediately after the storm, the Ward Family began gathering drift lumber washed up on the prairie from Galveston in the Mustang Community. The house rose on salvage from a railroad bridge-timbers 15 inches wide, nine inches thick, and eighteen feet long. Only shingles, flooring, and siding were purchased. The house was started in September, 1900; the family moved in July 4, 1901. Wards lived there until 1929 when the mother and three daughters moved to 616 West Adoue in Alvin, Texas.

The house at 616 W. Adoue was sold to Mrs E. G. Ward in 1929. Mildred and her three daughters moved from the Mustang home after her husband died on June 9, 1929.
