MY TRIBUTE
IN LOVING MEMORY
OF
MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER

My dearest great grandmother what a tremendous woman you were of courage, strength and faith. Blazing the trail in covered wagons from Arkansas to California with members of your family to a new wild territory. Facing all of the hardships and deaths along the way of so many members of your family. Then to meet a wonderful man, and become a widow when you were still in your forties with eight children to raise.
Leaving California with your children and brothers to face the dangers in the Tonto Basin Area of Arizona. How hard that must have been on you as you watched the dangers your children endured. The Pleasant Valley War and the Meadows Family Massacre, where your children and their spouses were involved. Taking on the care of your grandchildren for your son when he lost his wife. So many experiences to edure at such a young age. Something that the present generation would never be able to imagine.
I love to hear all of the stories that have been related to me by members of my familly. How when my grandmother Meta would go to town and my grandfather Charles would always remind her to bring back a present for you. He definitely had a great love and admiration for you. I also have been told that even after your had the fall when you were tangled up in the horses reins and broke your hip, and it was so hard for you to get around without a cane; you would always pick up my aunt Lois's rattlers off the floor, time after time, and put them back on her high chair. You certainly had and showed a great love for your children and grandchildren.
I think the greatest story is when my grandfather Charles took his brother George, your son, to San Francisco to be operated on and tragically he died there. When my grandfather returned and told you about the death of your son how you praised God because he accepted Jesus Christ before he died. Because of your faith you knew that you would see him again and spend eternity with him, which was the most important thing. This faith was what must have sustained you through that tragic loss.
I am sure that my grandfather's tremendous faith was because of your training and example. I thank you for this wonderful son of yours, my grandfather, and for the religious training that you gave him that is being passed down through all of your descendents.
