MY
TRIBUTE

IN
"LOVING MEMORY"
OF MY GRANDFATHER
CHARLES EVAN HAZELTON
Born: July 11, 1875
Died: February 6, 1942

My beloved grandfather you are the one person in our family, the patriarch of the family who there has been so many diverse descriptions. I have asked many questions about you and discussed you with so many members of the family; attempting to know more about you and the complex, but simple man is some ways, because of the compassionate nature that you had.

Coming from a family who had traveled across the frontier in wagon trains to the West Coast suffering many tragedies along the way.  From a family who had many ministers and a strong belief in God.  But a rugged family involved in so much of the history of Arizona.

At one time you had two of the largest cattle ranches in Arizona. The Flying W Ranch in the Sierra Ancha Mountains near Gisela and the TVX Ranch in the Four Peaks range in the Mazatatzal Mountains. All the mining you did in this state. You and your family definitely made an indelible imprint on the history of this great state of Arizona, which has been chronicled in many books on the history of Arizona.

But the greatest, most endearing quality, was your generosity in giving to the work of the Lord. Buying a building for a church, opening your home for missionaries and other people who needed a place to stay, a meal, or anything that you had to give which would help them. I have heard how people would come to your home and you would anoint them and believe in the power of God to work a miracle in their lives. I have definitely heard of your great faith and unwavering trust in your Heavenly Father. You knew without reservation that He would always answer every prayer when you relied totally upon Him. My father would tell me how you would always tell him before a church service to keep playing the piano until the power of God would be manifested.

What will always be remembered is the great love you had for your wife Meta, your mother Obedience and your twelve children. Family was the most important thing to you and you demonstrated this love to each and every one of them as they speak about you with such love and devotion. I know as each one of your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren has joined you that there was a great celebration. But the biggest celebration is yet to come when all the family will be reunited and I will get a chance to meet you, my dear grandfather. Until the day of that great reunion know that all of your descendents have held you up as the patriarch that left the example to us of how we should live our lives. You are definitely remembered by all with great admiration and an even greater love.
