OF
CAROLINE GATKE WARNKE MAXON
IN
LOVING MEMORY

Born: February 1855
Died: June 21, 1909

It must have been very difficult for you living in this territory of Arizona back in the late 1800's, especially since you were a widow trying to hold the family together. In spite of this you were willing to raise your older brother's son after your sister-in-law and niece had departed from this life.
How very wonderful you and your five children were to my grandmother Meta, her brother Mortiz and sister Henrietta after their parents and grandparents passed away. My grandmother and her two oldest daughters talked so often of you and your daughter Louise, who was affectionately called Big D.
I have had the privilege of meeting a lot of your descendents, how very proud you would be of them. They are so warm and loving, you truly left a wonderful heritage. I know the day will come when we will all to get to meet you and have a great family reunion. Until that day we, your family, will have gentle and very warm memories of you.
