Dear great grandparents how I wish that someone had left me something that would have told of your life. All that I have had to hold on to is statistics, nothing that would tell of your beliefs, your family or the things that were of utmost importance to you.
I do know that you arrived here in the United States in 1862 and
were married in 1865. I know that you came first to Chicago, Illinois where your first four children were born. You then moved to Morris, Illinois where the next two children were born and finally to Girard, Kansas where your last child was born.
I know dear great grandfather that you were a tailor and that you
were in Chicago during the Great Fire of 1871. There was some information that said you lost your sewing machine and possibly most of your possessions during the fire. That must have been very hard considering you had only been in the United States for only nine years. But you still managed to survive and not let this loss destroy the life of your family or yours.
Even though I do not have anything that tells us of your life I
know that you and your wife Hannah must have had a great faith and trust
in God. Out of seven children there were only two sons and both sons had a strong belief in God and manifested it during their lifetimes. Your youngest son William, became a Nazarene Minster and my grandfather Alfred, your oldest son, spent his life building the town of Kismet, Kansas with a bible college and was instrumental in the building of another church from the bible study he had in his home here in Phoenix. That definitely indicates that you provided the spiritual training for your family that gave them a great sense of responsibility towards their families and the community.
I would like to thank both of you for my grandfather, your son, Alfred and for training him in the way he should live his life. This is something that was passed down through our father and hopefully will be passed down through all of your future descendents.
