The Kismet Cemetery first had burials in 1909.  There is some confusion about the first burial, whether it was Baby Weaver, whose marker states only 1909; or a child Ruth Olin, daughter of Alfred C. and Emeline E. Olin founders of Kismet, whose family history has her birth date July 24, 1908 and her death date as July 21, 1909.  Others buried in the cemetery in 1909 include John H. Miller (1848-1909), Hiram G. King (1868-1909)and Leslie M. McAdams (July 10, 1865-Aug 12, 1909).

The cemetery belonged to the city for many years, then was essentially abandoned for a time.  During that time the trustees would organize a clean up once a year before Memorial Day.  But little in on going maintenance was done, and no lots could be bought.

Later the need was evident to have a tax supported cemetery district and Arva Handy and others were instrumental in carrying a petition to get this done.  John and Geneva Bruner are now caring for the cemetery.  They spend many hours each spring and summer to make it the most beautiful and serene cemetery in the country.

A new section of approximately two acres was acquired from Vernon and Doris Miller, just to the north of the original site.  The first burial in this new section was Jack Miller's grave.&nbs; This section has an underground sprinkler system for irrigation.  It also has electricity laid to the center of each quarter for future use when trimming trees, etc.
