I, WILLIAM WELCH of Greenville District and State of South Carolina
being weak in body
but sound in mind and memory, calling to mind
the mortality of my body knowing it is
appointed for all men to die I make constitute
and ordain this to be my last will and testament
after committing my sole to the care of
Almighty
god I make the following distribution of the
world estate which God has given me in this
life.
I give and bequeath to my loving wife
ELIZABETH
the old Negro woman named CLO. I also
bequeath to my wife ELIZABETH all that part
of the tract of land where I now live on west of
the creek that runs through my plantation
running a straight corse with the creek to the line
during her life or widowhood and at her death
or marriage to fall to my son William. I also
bequeath to my son William a Negro boy named
BEN. I also bequeath to my son-in-law
HENRY REANS one dollar and twenty five cents.
I also bequeath to LINNEY WELS one
good feather bed and furniture and all the
rest of my property the land east of the creek before
mentioned with all my other property, Negroes,
horses, cattle, sheep, hogs and household and
kitchen furniture to be sold at publick sale
and my money on hand all to be equally divided
between my wife, my son DANIEL, my son GEORGE,
my daughter POLLY, my daughter
SUCKEY, and my son WILLIAM.
I also constitute THOMAS AUSTIN, my
son-in-law,
JAMES PEDEN and JAMES
ALEXANDER, Sr., to be my executors of this
my last will and testament. I hereby ratify and
confirm this and no other to be my last will
and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal the twenty third day
of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and eighteen. Signed, Sealed in the
