MARRIAGES AND DEATH NOTICES

UP-COUNTRY OF SOUTH CAROLINA

"Died in this District, on the 30th ult., MR. ASA WRIGHT, a
Revolutionary
Soldier, aged 78 years. The deceased was an exmplary member of
the
Baptist Church."

"In the name of God Amen, I, ASA WRIGHT of Greenville District South Carolina, being of weak body but of perfect mind and memory praised be God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament (that is to say), principally and first of all, I give and recommend my sole into the hands of Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner nothing doubting but at the General resurection I shall receive the same by the mighty power of God, and as touching each worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:
(Vis) My will and desire is that all my just debts should first be paid, furthermore, I leave and bequeath until my well beloved wife one Negro girl, CHARLOT, during her natural life and then for her to dispose of the said girl CHARLOT in whatsoever way she sees fit to her and her heirs forever, with one bed and furniture and all my kitchen furniture, plates, knives, and forks, dishes, cups, and saucers and with a comfortable support from the present crop for one year to be estimated by the Executor hereafter mentioned with two cows and one bay horse also my boy DANIEL and after the death of my wife, ELIZABETH [WRIGHT] the above named property except the Negro girl CHARLOT, to be sold and equally divided amongst my lawful heirs hereafter mentioned. Furthermore, it is my will and desire that my riding carriage , one bed and furniture, four head of cattle with the remaining part of my estate not mentioned to be sold and the money equally divided betwixt my lawful heirs (vis) KITTY FORD, SUSANAH HOWARD, SALLY WRIGHT, WILLIAM WRIGHT, BERRY WRIGHT, and ASA TERRY and PEGGY YEATES.
And, furthermore it is my will and desire that I do hereby constitute appoint and ordain my beloved friend BRASHER HENDERSON my whole and sole Executor of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disanul all and every other former testaments, wills and legacies by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and this only to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
second day of September
in the Year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and thirty six.
Signed, sealed and delivered by the said ASA WRIGHT as his last will and testament in presents of us the subscribers.
