Wise Solomon Jones was born in Texas in 1858 to James Russell Jones and Margaret Wilman. The 1860 U.S. Census for Bell County Texas states that "Sol" is three years old. In the 1870 U.S. Census for Bell County, "Wise" is 13 years old.  Wise Solomon Jones married Mary Melinda Coward in Hamilton County, Texas on December 25, 1877. Mary Melinda Coward was born in Texas March 7, 1860, the daughter of James Coward of South Carolina and Eliza Bervilla Mitchell of Mississippi.

Wise S. Jones and wife, M. Melinda are listed in the 1880 U.S. Census of Hamilton County, Texas along with two daughters, Cordia and Eliza A. In this Census, Wise S. Jones is listed as "disabled." Family records indicate that Cordia Alto Jones was born February 1, 1879 in Hamilton County and Eliza Ann Jones was born April 24, 1880 in Hamilton County. Family records also indicate that Wise Solomon Jones died in 1885 within months of his in-laws, James Coward and Eliza Bervilla Mitchell.

Apparently, between 1880 and 1885 Wise Solomon Jones and Mary Melinda Coward also had two sons Joe Allen and Charly as a family photo indicates these were the children of Wise Solomon and Mary Melinda Coward Jones. In her late eighties, Eliza Jones Welch stated that her father, Wise Solomon Jones had died on March 7, 1885.

Cordia Alto Jones (1879-1964) married J.D. Walls. Eliza Ann Jones (1880-1968) married James Daniel Welch on May 26, 1896 in McLennan County. Joe Allen Jones (1882-1934) married Laura Caldonia Moring.
