Bennie Franklin Hook attended Richard Lagow Elementary School and
Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, Texas. He began his career
with Tennessee Dairies in 1935 where he was employed as Route
Supervisor. His father, JOHN CALHOUN HOOK owned and operated the
HOOK ICE DELIVERY SERVICE in Dallas 1920-1940 and his grandfather,
ROBERT POWELL SCOTT operated a horse drawn SCOTT MOVER WAGON in
Nacogdoches 1880-1900. It it was no surprise the urge to own and
operate his own business eventually set Bennie Hook on a course of Sole
Proprietorship. By 1950, he owned and operated HOOK VENDING
SERVICES with machines in numerous Dallas businesses and HOOK HONOR
SYSTEMS COFFEE SERVICE, supplying coffee breaks to downtown Dallas
businesses. In 1952 he expanded his
business operation with the addition of the “CHUCK WAGON” Mobile
Industrial Food Catering Service which he owned and operated until he
retired in 1970. Following retirement he worked part-time for
WESTERN SANDWICH COMPANY in Dallas.
In March 1945, Bennie Franklin Hook was inducted into the United States
Army. He served as Private in Headquarters Company 18th Armored Group,
49th Tank Battalion, Serial # 38645739. In Fort Knox, KY, he
completed Basic Training in armored tank combat tactics, field
sanitation, map reading, and guard duty. He was Honorably
Discharged November 8, 1945 from Fort Ord, California and awarded
the World War II Victory Medal.
Bennie F. Hook was a member of the HATCHER STREET BAPTIST CHURCH,
Dallas Texas from 1935-1955 where he served as Church Deacon.
Following the family’s move to “Pleasant Grove, Texas” he transferred
membership to the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of Pleasant Grove serving
as Church Deacon from 1955-1970. He continued to live in
Pleasant Grove until his death in 1981.
