Schaller's Eldest Resident Is Buried Last Friday Afternoon
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Emma Collins, 103, who passed away at her home on Wednesday afternoon after a several weeks illness. The services were conducted by Rev. Glenn H. Hulsebus of Brooklyn, former pastor of Schaller Church. Favorite hymns were sung by Mrs. Oren Rininger who was accompanied by Karen McDonough. Interment was made in the Schaller Cemetery under the direction of Farber-Otteman Funeral Home.
Attendants were grandsons and great-grandsons, John Watson, George Watson, Robert Collins, Chas McIntosh, Gerry Watson and Tommy Watson.
Emma Holler Collins was born December 23,1851 in LaSalle County, Illinois and passed away quietly at her home in Schaller, Iowa on June 8,1955, having reached the age of 103 years. Up until the past few weeks "Grandma" as she was affectionately called, was up and about the house and assisting with the small household tasks. Although hard of hearing the past few years, Mrs. Collins was noted for her keen wit, her knowledge of the present day affairs, her love and affection for her family, relatives and many friends.
Besides the holiday season being just Mrs. Collins birthday, it was also her wedding anniversary as she was married to George P. Collins on December 30,1874 in LaSalle County, Illinois. They came to Iowa on a train that was a real event in those days. She and Mr. Collins made their home on farms in Ida and Sac County and the last part of their married life was lived in the town of Schaller. Mr. Collins died in 1920.
Mr. and Mrs. Collins were the parents of five children; Oren and Charles and Lacy Watson, all who preceded their parents in death and Elizabeth with whom she has made her home and Frank H., also of Schaller, Iowa. During the past years of life she was carefully and devotedly taken care of by her daughter, Elizabeth.
Mrs. Collins was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was very active in church affairs as her health permitted.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and son Frank H.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Mrs. Ella Bemus, 93, who makes her home with her sister, and a very large circle of friends and neighbors.

Anna Stedman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stedman, was born December 24, 1856 at Peru, Illinois, and died in Austin Minnesota, Sunday morning, February 28, 1937 at the age of 80 years, two months and four days.
She attended school and grew to womanhood near Peru, Ill. In the year 1881 she was united in marriage to Frank Holler of Peru. This union was blessed by the birth of four children, two boys and two girls. Twenty two years ago they left their farm in Illinois and moved to a farm near Taopi, Minn. Here they farmed for a number of years and then moved to Taopi where they resided until six years ago. After her husband's death in July 1930, Mrs. Holler came to make her home with her daughter Mrs. Jessie Sale at 507 North Fifth street in Austin.
Mrs. Holler was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Austin and a member of the Sunshine Sunday School class. She was a good and devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a true neighbor. She was by nature modest, quiet, reserved and kindly in all her ways. She was content to be at home and her home was her chief interest outside of her church.
She, notwithstanding her years, had been in very good health until four weeks ago when she suffered a heart attack from which she apparently recovered. Early Sunday morning about 2:30 o'clock she had another heart attack and passed away one hour later.
Mrs. Holler is survived by her two sons, Irvin of Kasbeer, Ill., and Walter of Austin, by her two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Watts of Rockford, Ill. and Mrs. Jessie Sale of Austin, by her 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were conducted from the house at 1:15 p.m. and from the Austin Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Reverend William Erie Shields. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery at LeRoy.

Mrs. Charles Bemus
Mrs. Ella Bemus, 93, widow of Charles H. Bemus, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at Schellar, Iowa where she had made her home for the past several years with a niece, Miss Libbie Collins.
She lived in Piqua on Park Avenue for may years and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. Her husband died in 1940.
Surviving are two (step) sons, Lester and Allen, in Mississippi and a (step) daughter, Mrs. Helen Herbert of Sidney.
