Dodge-Weeks Cemetery
Joseph and Samuel Weekes, sons of Francis Weekes, both married
daughters of henry Reddocke, and inherited his property at Matinecock about
1674. they settled there on strips of land East of Sheeps Lane running from
Bayville Road North to the water. Their homes were at the South end of the
tract, and the present building known as Green Arbors is said to be one of
them, now vastly altered. Samuel Weekes removed to Cedar Swamp in 1687,
but Joseph, who was Captain of Queens County Militia and Trustee of the Oyster
Bay Baptist Church, remained. His daughter Sarah, who married Tristram Dodge
and some of his other descendent are bd. here The cemetery contains
43 standing stones, all legible ones being copied below. Twelve additional
pieces of stone, probably gravestones, two of which showed definite lettering
but all of which were illegible, were found scattered about. The cemetery,
surrounded by a hedge, is located in the back yard of MaWhinney place on
the West side of Cherrywood Lane off Bayville Road, near Egypt Lane. Done
